I'm inclined to think we'll hear 10/24/81 the weekend of October 23rd/October 24th. Well, KOLA announced 10/20/1984 for the weekend of 10/23. If it's a stand-alone, which I'm guessing it is (although there's the remote possibility it could be a "B" to 10/24/1981), then it's likely we won't hear it this year. 10/31/1981 could be repeated, though...it last aired in 2017.

Not only has it had the longest drought but also the only November show that could air from 1981 is 11/14/81 and that time slot is most likely taken by 11/13/82.
Also a 10/31/81 airing would set up 12/12/81 quite nicely for mid-December.

Not unless they decide to do something stupid like going 11/13/82, 11/14/81, 11/19/83 for the first three weeks in November. And actually this sort of thing should sound familiar: February went 2/14/81, 2/16/85, 2/20/88, so there's absolutely nothing stopping Premiere from forcing the November sequence to happen, dates be d**ned.

If 10/31/1981 airs on Halloween weekend, there goes hope for 11/1/1980 (hoping to restore the 3 AT40 1960's archive songs omitted from previous broadcasts of this AT40 show) this 2021 year.

Since 1981 has quite a long drought, there is the possibility for that year to be chosen for the year-ender, as well as 1987, though I'm leaning more towards the latter. It has been awhile since both shows have aired (2012 for 1987 and 2013 for 1981).
If 1981 is the show chosen, then they might skimp on that year a little more, likely having only one more show from that year instead of two during the last few months of this year. Also, if they choose 1981, there would be a chance for 1987 to be the "B" show.
It indeed could go either way.

To be honest, I would´ve been really surprised if KOLA had stopped playing the American Top 40 - The 80s. Almost every weekend you can read a "pure" 80s playlist on their website, so it really would have made no sense - maybe financial reasons aside.

One of 1981 or 1987 should get a show in December (either 12/12/81 or 12/19/87). Whichever year is not featured is probably the year-end special for 2021.

Weekend of 10/21: 10/20/84!! www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/10-20-84.pdfLast played 2015 w/extras! Hour #1: "I Wanna Rock" - Twisted Sister Hour #2: "Valotte" - Julian Lennon Hour #3: "All I Need" - Frisco Jones Hour #4: "Walking On A Thin Line" - Huey Lewis & The News I would say this is likely a B show. If 10-24-81 is a yet to be determined A show, this would make sense to be a "B" offering. We just had an 82/83 combo. 10-19-85 aired as a B last year. We heard 1986 as an A just two weeks ago, and 1987 this week. I think 10-25-80 has aired in recent years, so 10-24-81 has to be the A show to the 10-20-84 B show. I doubt that this a stand alone. One thing that I remember about the 10-20-84 show was the "Hell Is For Children" LDD which oddly began on the second verse.

I'm willing to bet that 10/24/81 will be the designated "A" show next week.

Doesn't seem likely they would have 1987 year-ender as the 'B' twice before having it as the 'A' again. Sure this happens all the time with the regular countdowns but this being a special Premiere may have different airing rules. If the top 100 of 1981 special is on the schedule, my guess is it would be paired with either 1985 or 1986 (aired 2 and 3 years ago respectively).
Also, one would think the year-end specials would all be standalone (much like the November/December regular countdowns). Any particular reason why the year-end shows are paired?

Just sent a Facebook message to KOLA FM about not yet posting the October 23-24, 2021 weekend AT40: The 80's show details on their site yet. Hope they respond, and I hope they are not about to drop the show after the October 15-16, 2021 weekend! Again, I don't understand the need for baseless speculation like this and (below) which Ken shot down. No 1971 again? I guess rumor has it Premiere is about to nix 1970 and 1971 shows from the AT40: The 70's rotation. And I bet we get 1979 again sometime in July 2021 - maybe 7/21/1979 or 7/28/1979?

Sure this happens all the time with the regular countdowns but this being a special Premiere may have different airing rules. This is the very reason that I'm leaning towards 1987 being the year-ender this time around, even though 1981 would also be a possibility.
