In case anyone is interested, I listened to the 80's show on Sunday morning on KTSO 100.9 and the stream was solid the entire show... Did they play all the extras? That would partially determine whether or not I would listen to that station...

I don't notice them and don't always listen to the shows when they're aired. I record it for later listening. I could check if you like...

That's OK--I do like the extras most of the time, and I also record shows to listen in my car on the way to/from work, etc. They add another four hits to the show from around the time of release.

Prediction for next week's show:
1st Guess - 12/10/83 2nd Guess - 12/11/82
Seems like 1983 has pretty good odds of being the show for the weekend of Dec. 10th. I feel like the year-end special is probably 1982, and if it is, an '82 show would be pretty unlikely...but you never know.

This week's 80's extras are the same as they were in 2013. Which means:
Hour #1: "Missing You" - Diana Ross (#82; debuted) Hour #2: "The Boys Of Summer" - Don Henley (#42) Hour #3: "Foolish Heart" - Steve Perry (#59) Hour #4: "Loverboy" - Billy Ocean (#56; highest debut)

The lost 80s classic that 1finemrg posted is another example of a time stamped hit. Eurythmics "Sexcrime" mentions 1984. Same happened with Asia's "Heat of the Moment" mentioning '82. Wonder how many more years have their year of release mentioned in the lyrics.
Actually the subtitle of Eurythmics is (Nineteen Eighty Four)

WTF KOLA. Next week get your s*** together please. The show was a mess. Now as I was saying what do you mean the show is a mess? I'm confused and not understanding what you're saying. Does you or anybody else know what does she mean by that? Was that the streaming issues, or was it just an exaggeration?

I listened to the show on KOLA this past Saturday morning and thought the show and stream sounded great. Not sure what it was like the second airing.

That was somewhat prophetic for Casey to segue into Madonna after reviewing the artists with most #1 dance chart hits. Late 1984 is so early in her career that she did not even make the top 5, having had only 1 dance chart #1 to date. Soon to change with Virgin becoming her second but as most people know, she would easily eclipse Donna Summer for queen of the dance chart. Produced by Nile Rodgers and the story about him was a good one. You know the 3 songs he has a hand in on this countdown will be the top 3 hits on 1/5/85. Only the 6th person as far as I can tell to have a hand in the top 3 songs after the Fab 4(1964) and Barry Gibb(1978).

^^ When the 12/10/83 show aired in 2010, these were the optional extras:
"Pink Houses" - John Cougar Mellencamp "99 Luftballoons" - Nena "Think Of Laura" - Christopher Cross "The Politics Of Dancing" - Re-Flex
I don't know if the extras will change... I am assuming they will not.

I just viewed the cue sheet for the 12/10/83 show and noticed that only 9 songs are featured in the second hour (#30 - #22). I wonder if we will be hearing some longer versions of songs in that hour, or some very long stories from Casey!

12/1/84 includes the first top 40 appearance of U2, "the capital letter U and the number 2". Either this or one of the next few AT40s caused Casey to pitch a fit preserved for posterity, similar to the Dead Dog Dedication. He got irritated at what he felt was over-detailed explanation of the band (not in the final version of this show) and in his pique misidentified their home country: "These guys are from England and who gives a sh*t!" when they're of course actually Irish.
The show also includes one classic case of lyrics misheard by a listener: the second LDD was a request for "Welcome to Hard Life", from someone who appreciated the "hard life" of farming. The AT40 staff apparently liked the letter enough to use it anyway, with the song "Welcome to Heartlight" by Kenny Loggins, which Casey pronounced correctly outro-ing the song.

On 12/1/1984, did Casey accidentally use the previous week's (11/24/1984) chart drop data for I Just Called to Say I Love You" by Stevie Wonder when he outroed the song?

I wonder if we will be hearing some longer versions of songs in that hour, or some very long stories from Casey! I am thinking one or two of the songs may be longer versions, in order to make up the allotted air time for broadcast. Also, next week's 1983 show is the landmark top 40 debut of Madonna. A snippet of Casey introducing Madonna's first top 40 song debuting that week was heard during the June 21, 2014 episode of Ryan Seacrest's AT40 as part of his Casey Kasem tributes after Casey passed away. That was the first (and only) time since Ryan's first show that I got to listen to a full broadcast hosted by Ryan Seacrest, and it's a shame I never recorded it. Since 1983 is next week's offering, I have a feeling we'll be getting a repeat of February 19, 1983 come February. If February 25, 1984 also airs next February, it may be the first time since "B" options began for the 80s series that only one option would prevail for two straight weeks. Just goes to show that 1983 and 1984 get a lot of love by 80s radio stations across the board.
