What I don't get...and this might be purely a logistical question, but, HOW would Premiere have done this? I know that Shannon's the one who re-masters the shows, and this doesn't seem like something he would do...but if he didn't, then - how exactly was this done?
I dunno...it just seems like simply chalking it up to Premiere having edited the show is leaving out a piece of the puzzle.

A better question is...WHY?

I dotn remember which show, but on one of the Premiere syndicated version, EVERY KIND OF PEOPLE by Robert Palmer, they played a remix version that was on his CD that came out about 15 years after the riginal show aired. Dunno why.

Sometimes as a New Year's gift I wish Shannon can offer up some of the shows for free download. Aww well as least I can wish

Madonna - Dress You Up (7" Promo Remix Edit) - played on all episodes with the exception of the year-end countdown. Bobby Brown - Get Away ( M&M Mix Edit) - played on AT40 with Shadoe Stevens during its chart run En Vogue - Free Your Mind - They played an R&B funked up remix of this song and I found it appalling because these women intended for this to be a song with a "rock edge". Billy Joel - Keeping The Faith (Special Mix) - played as far as I can remember through its entire chart run. For at least one show 3/30/85 the original Keeping the Faith was played but I do remember from 3/2/85 show the special mix being played.

I downloaded part of a summer 1990 broadcast of Shadoe's AT40, and I discovered that "Come Back To Me" by Janet Jackson (which climbed to #11 that week) was a totally different version unlike the version played when it entered the top 10 the following week at #6. Rick Dees' countdown played the regular version that same week, as did CT40, and it was at #4 on both countdowns. I knew, based on the vast difference (#11 vs. #4), that the song had a good chance of entering the top 10 as low as #6 the following week, and it did. I would have been shocked if it held at #11 the following week, seeing it rose from #18 the week before August 4.

Either one of those could just be a single version...

Come to think of it, I do remember owning Rhythm Nation 1814 on cassette back in the early 1990s. I remember purchasing it at a flea market, and I think the version played on 8/4/1990 was likely comparable to the album version. They must have played the single version otherwise.

On the Top 100 of 1988, Shadoe plays the English-Spanish version of "Anything For You" by Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine. Did Casey ever play this version?

That was actually the B-side of the 45, not really rare. I only consider the "odd" versions to be promo-only issues or 12-inch single versions, which were much harder to find for the average consumer.

In 1992, there was an odd version played of "I'm The One You Need" by Jody Watley. It wasn't the one my local Top 40 station was playing.

So strange about Pop Muzik--would love for one of the Premiere insiders to enlighten us on this subject, but I have a feeling that it isn't likely we will be able to get the real answer. was. Chances are, there was a problem with the song (i.e., a skip or pop that couldn't simply just be edited out), then the sound mixer unknowingly played a version he found in the Clear Channel library just assuming there was only one version. Just a theory. If you heard the Whitney Houston medley that was played on Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 last weekend, one of the songs was clearly not the original mix.

Indeed - "I'm Your Baby Tonight" was a different mix from what I'm used to hearing.

I wouldn't really call it an "odd" version of the song, but the version of Rock With You on the 1980 show is the one without the hand claps in the chorus. I heard it on my cassette copy of the Off the Wall album, but when I got it on CD it was the one with the hand claps I usually hear today whenever that song is played.
