On this week's 1980 show, Turbo Casey said Knack had a big 1979 and were off to a running start in 1980. 'Dirty would stumble up a notch the next panel, then Knack would never see the top 40 again.

Casey made a similar statement about an artist in a similar position in the 1975 show last week. George McCrae had hit #1 with his first release the previous summer as the Knack did. Said that "I Get Lifted" was on its way when it debuted as the Knack did in this show. Had the same fate peaking a notch higher than the Knack did and never seeing the top 40 again.

A lot of disco artists feel that is an example of what goes around, comes around. "My Sharona" probably was more responsible than any other song (though it was an industry wide backlash in actuality) to putting an end to the disco era. In the process many disco artists had suffered the same fate that would happen several months later for the Knack.

Not a band, but Vanilla Ice was pretty huge at his peak and came and went pretty quickly. "Ice Ice Baby" debuted in September 1990 and "I Love You" peaked at #52 in March 1991. By the time Cool as Ice was released in October 1991, it was all over.

In a Supersized reverse jinx from the same show Casey said guess where Night Fever was headed next week. It would take one extra panel for Bee Gees career biggie to get to #1.

I know their reign in 1978-79 didn't last long.

The group that the Knack knocked out of the #1 position...Chic. They had 4 top 10 hits in a year and a half and that huge #1 hit "Le Freak" and then poof gone!

Although co-founder Nile Rodgers certainly had continued success as a producer and writer, beginning with Diana Ross' monster 1980 "Diana" LP and its two hit singles. Similar to how the brothers Gibb pivoted to writing and producing hits for others during the 'disco backlash' era on radio that followed '79's "Spirits Having Flown".
