I heard this song this morning. It brings back many great memories from seeing classmates singing the song to radio stations making their own version of the #1 hit. The song is just incredible. The vocals going back & forth and the DJ bridge. One of the best of the decade. I had a chance to hear Mickey Thomas featuring the music of Starship in a concert just a couple of years ago and he still has his voice. Grace was replaced by a singer from Las Vegas. I can't remember her name just that she was from that city.
As far the haters, well some just like hating. That's why I will not say which number 3 hit from 1983 fits the bill as the worst of the 80's. I guess, now you know it's one of 11 songs which means I probably said too much. I don't like every song; and no one does. If you don't like a song let it be, there's no value in trashing someone's love of music.
Music is art and very subjective. There's nothing wrong with commercial art.
Now, the different hosts of AT40, trash away. ;D

I believe the dislike of "We Built This City" is based on the music video and its overexposure in the mid 1980s. I think it is much better than "Hangin Tough" just to name a song.

Other than being tripe compared to the Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship material and even a few other Starship songs were better (It's Not Over Til Its Over, It's Not Enough for example) and the fact that Mickey Thomas is an untalented hack, its an alright song.... ;-D

I saw MICKEY THOMAS last year perform onstage with LOU GRAMM and EDDIE MONEY and he still looks and sounds really good (can still hit those high notes!). Everyone's tastes are different. When I see these "Worst of" lists, I sometimes wonder what the writers would consider the "Best of" that decade. In other words, do these people think Puff Daddy and Snoop Dogg belong in the R&R Hall of Fame? Now THAT would tell you a lot more about the tastes of the people writing the articles.

Well of course Puff Daddy and Snoop Dogg don't belong in the ROCK hall of fame. And of course Mickey Thomas would belong in there long before them!
I'll have to ask Lou when I see him about Mickey and his thoughts on him!
