That gal from the station in Georgia has a sweet voice but I have no idea who she is. I agree. She does have a sweet voice. I don't think anyone has successfully identified her yet. Casey did mention him as the host of ACC when he played "Wildwood Weed" in the 1974 Year-End countdown. I'm pretty sure "Wildwood Weed" must have been a big hit on the country chart as well. If so, then Bowman would have had a chance to count down his own song!

So indeed Casey does note that Don Bowman was at one time host of "American Country Countdown" during his reign. Strange ... someone a couple of years ago said that Casey never said anything about the show or Bowman as its host during the 1973-1978 era. Glad we got THAT cleared up.
Oh well, on with predictions (assuming they are from Hour 1):
* "The Boss" by Diana Ross. The former Supreme was perched at No. 40. * "Sail On" by The Commodores -- who by the way are this coming weekend's feature band on "Dick Bartley's Rock and Roll's Greatest Hits" -- and their No. 37 hit is sure to be among those played. * "Different Worlds" by Maureen McGovern. The theme from "Angie" was at No. 36 this week.
Pretty simple, my friend. Pretty simple.

Too bad we won't be hearing "Girl Of My Dreams" by Bram Tchaikovsky. Good record that got lost in time!
What's up with the scribble on the playlist between 36 and 35? "WH? Mitch Rider + Detroit Wheels"

In any event, we won't get the chance to find out from Premiere.

But since 2 of the members of the Detroit Wheels are then members of the Rockets, it is also an intro the next song...Oh Well by those Rockets. And that my friends has a great line in it....Can't help bout the shape I'm in. Can't sing, I aint pretty and my legs are thin. Don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to.....Oh well!!! This is a cover of an old Fleetwood Mac song. Play it as OE Premiere!!

I had heard somewhere that the individual who wrote "The Night Chicago Died" was misinformed about the city-There is no East Side. Its writer s[/i], Peter Callander and Mitch Murray, who've been a songwriting act dating back to the 1960s, per Wikipedia, "said in interviews... that they had never been to Chicago before that time, and that their knowledge of the city and that period of its history had been based on gangster films."

The song at #2 on this 1979 countdown would end up as the #1 song for the year. But the #1 song would have much more lasting impact thanks to Big Bank Hank, Wonder Mike and Master Gee. A new era in pop music was on the horizon!

Funny...the #8 record reminds me of a commercial for an insurance company! Yes; he DOES play a mean fiddle!

The cover of Oh Well wasn't all that bad, but I prefer the live Fleetwood Mac version from their 1980 live album the most.

That was another great '74 show this weekend. I would definitely have to say that 1974 is my favorite year for the first half of the 70's (though I don't need to hear it again on this week, SXM!!). So many great classics from that time.
And one of my favorite years ever is 1979--coming up this weekend!

I am having serious concerns about AT40-The 70s becoming an endangered program! My local station, WSEN in suburban Syracuse, New York has switched to AT40-The 80s. Their General Manager sent me a cordial email response to my question about it; saying he feels the 80s version is more fitting for their overall music mix. This now makes two stations in my area that have dropped 70s. And I have been reading reports on this board about similar changes in other markets.
I relayed the complete text of the response to pizzza so he could update his station listings thread.
So now, after almost five years of enjoying AT40-The 70s, I am completely dependant on internet streams to be able to hear it.
