Check out the final segment of hour #2; it devotes 7 and a half minutes to playing the long version of "Are You Ready" by Pacific Gas & Electric. Unusual choice! Also, at 5:36 it looks like the full length version of "Maybe" was played. (I'm saying "was" because it could be cut in this weekend's presentation) Yet I see "25 Or 6 To 4" is the single edit. You are correct about the lengths of those 2 songs which are good almost great songs IMO. Not sure how many songs had long versions available other than 25 or 6 to 4 as you mentioned. Spill the Wine is a nearly 5 minute song as well. But with so many short songs, they had plenty of time to play long versions. Surprised they never played the album/long version of Mama Told me, a #1 song. "...the Beatles' new record's a gas..."

I missed the first hour and a half of this week's (1976) show because WBBG's stream was down. Just points out the disadvantage of listening online instead of on local radio. There's a slight chance KMCQ will carry the show in the future (replacing KJR), but until they do, I'm stuck doing it the newfangled way

Is it too early for a hint for the next AT40 show? I'll get you started with this...
(dukedeb, here's another "AT40 first" to consider adding to the list)
It's the first AT40 program to feature a female radio announcer.

I should not be allowed to guess but seriously, I don't know what the next show is. But I am 99% sure it is August 10, 1974.

(dukedeb, here's another "AT40 first" to consider adding to the list) It's the first AT40 program to feature a female radio announcer. Hmmm...I am a little stumped (and curious as to whom the radio announcer would be) after looking through all the charts. It's been the longest since we heard a '71 show, but would they follow up a '70 show with a '71? It would also figure to be a late '70s week...and we can rule out '70 (and probably '77--8/13/77 has been played twice already), though ruling out shows has proven to be somewhat of a flawed method for me the last few weeks. Now, after thinking it over (and reading subsequent posts), I am revising my guesses: -First guess: 8/17/74 -Second guess: 8/12/78 BTW Pete, it is never too early for hints to future AT40 shows.

Wow, I did not think I would have to explain my guess. When Pete mentions female radio announcers, he could be referring to Keri Tombazian. But that is a guest hosted show AND it was done in the 80s. So that is out. AT40 started playing station identifications of themselves whereby the stations own DJs did little snippets about their station in June of 1974. This practice had stopped by 1975. So the only August that this happened was August of 1974. So I must have the exact date of the show wrong but certainly not the year. Else the clue is erroneous. So how bout 8/17/74. PS I am going to have bring Pete's book to work every Wed so I am not relying on my memory so much on these clues....lol

I interpreted the hint to mean that the performer of one of the week's top 40's songs is someone who is/was a female radio announcer at the time of that countdown....

As the Poppy Family says in a future countdown, "That's where I went wrong". Oh well, glad I can't put money down on this....lol

This is what I was thinking too--but dukedeb's explanation makes a lot of sense. I forgot about the station self-ID's during the summer of '74, and I agree--the 8/17/74 show would fit the bill the closest if that were the case...

I'm deliberately avoiding Wiki and Google so not to cheat. For some reason I have gotten it into my head that Meri Wilson was a DJ. If so that would make the next show 1977.

Well,my prediction about Larry Morgan taking this week off is correct-Here are this weekend's optional extras: 1)."I'm Walkin"-Fats Domino (Original "AT40" Extra) 2)."Can't Buy Me Love"-Beatles (Original "AT40" Extra) 3)."Gentle On My Mind"-Glen Campbell (Original "AT40" Extra)

"Alley Oop" by The Hollywood Argyles does stay in the show.

I think Meri Wilson was actually a school teacher. I would be surprised if they went with 1977, since 8/13/77 has already been played twice. Sure they could play it a 3rd time, but I think it has been quite a while since Premiere played a show for a 3rd time.

"Alley Oop" by The Hollywood Argyles does stay in the show. I'll be doggone. A bunch of possible extras they could have gone with, and we get three pretty well known oldies relegated to "extra" status and the least-known of the lot stays in (not that "Alley-Oop" is a bad song, but that's the one that's been all but forgotten by oldies stations nowadays). And to relegate the Glen Campbell song as an extra, even though I'm sure we'll hear a 1975 countdown between now and early October (to hear "Rhinestone Cowboy"), especially when he's on his final chapter in life having been diagnosed with Alzheimer's is just plain disrespectful in my book. Just my opinion, but this great singer's music needs to be played as often as possible, without stations having the option to cut if they play AT40. Curious how Premiere chooses its extras and decides what "original AT40 extras" to relegate to optional status. Brian
