Thanks Pete .... BTW your book isn't so easy to find. I would have had it by now. You can get information on purchasing Pete's book at the following link statenislandfan: http://www.at40book.com./

BTW, the instrumental Dukedeb was talking about was "Outa Space" by Billy Preston, which went to #2 on the countdown that Premiere is airing this weekend.
Predictions for the extras:
BABY DON'T GET HOOKED ON ME-Mac Davis IT'S TOO LATE-Carole King (original AT40 extra) I'M STILL IN LOVE WITH YOU-Al Green

I don't think there are enough people with slow connections to not stream at the speed of at least 128, but when your internet is lagging, it IS nice to have that 64! That is a common misconception. Due to the bad economy, many including myself never switched to high speed and still require 32 kbps to stream. Think about all of the ISPs that still offer slow connections such as America Online. There definitely remains a strong demand for slow connections. It would be awesome if radio stations that stream considered all of their users instead of some of their users. Radio stations should make it possible for all users to use their streams regardless of the Internet connection. ;D

kahunaburger61, thank you for providing the link. Regarding the July 8, 1972 program, after discovering AT40 in April 1971 while traveling, this was the first regular weekly show that I was able to listen to (and tape record) in its entirety. Imagine week after week -- and month after month -- trying to listen to the program and coming up empty for more than a year. Very frustrating to say the least! Until Casey finally landed in Chicago. During this program, he welcomed WCFL-AM as a new affiliate, the radio station where I heard AT40 on Saturday nights, from 1-4 a.m.

Do any of the experts here know the date when AT40 debut on WPIX-FM in NYC ? Thanks. Wel, if you had a copy of my 70s book, you'd know WPIX was first mentioned as an AT40 station on May 8, 1971. Time to work on that Christmas (in July!) Wish List. Christmas is July 6th this year for me. Got home and saw a carton on my doorstep with your 80s book in it. Already have your 70s book!!

(Backup prediction: July 11, 1970 with the Hot 100 from July 18, 1970) Does a playable copy of that show (the second AT40 ever aired) exist? I recall reading on here that one hour is missing.

Pete, that's a bummer. Do you know if there are any other shows with missing parts to them?

I am going to have listen to that show again to let people know what is unique about the first 2 hours since it will never be played. Off the top of my head, I can tell you that this is the only show in which Question by the Moody Blues is not edited. Oh and even better than that is that Casey makes a huge mistake regarding the Beatles having 19 #1s. (Probably the first big mistake he ever made!!)
