Interesting that the 11/11/78 show has a story about crazy radio station promotions and the KGB (San Diego) chicken. It was broadcast shortly after the famous WKRP in Cincinnati episode about the Thanksgiving "Turkey Drop" promotion ("As God is my witness, I swore turkeys could fly!")
Casey also noted the efforts of Ted Turner, then a millionaire sports teams owner, to lure the chicken to Atlanta. Ted failed to do that, but otherwise in retrospect he was just getting started....

WQOK just starting the full 4-hour 11/11/78 show. Starting with Gene Cotton's forgotten "Like a Sunday in Salem", a song about the McCarthy era.

I was hoping for November. But Premiere is overly emphasizing late 70's shows. This trend undoubtedly will continue in 2025. From January 6 - November 16, 2024, here's the breakdown of all the "A" shows: 1970 - 2 1971 - 4 1972 - 5 1973 - 5 1974 - 5 1975 - 4 1976 - 6 1977 - 4 1978 - 5 + 2nd half of 1978 Top 100 1979 - 5 It doesn't look all that lopsided. Almost every calendar year, every year gets represented 5 to 7 times as an "A" (except for 1970), and as long as "B" shows are available, there isn't any reason to think that should change. It's been like like that for years. |

I was referring to both the "A', "B" and Standalone shows. Many of us tune into the "A" and "B' shows weekly, so that's what I was emphasizing.

I was referring to both the "A', "B" and Standalone shows. Many of us tune into the "A" and "B' shows weekly, so that's what I was emphasizing. It seems that the late 70s are being featured more, which they are because station playlists have moved more towards that time period, thus Premiere has it set up for 1976-1979 to be heard more often than in previous groupings, by expanding 1973-1975 to get "B" shows. I should say, they're more likely to be played, but as johnnywest pointed out, the "A" shows have been mostly balanced. It's because of the current groupings that we hear the late 70s more. |
