WPNC started the show 20 minutes early, around 11:40amish, for Sept 25, 1976. Snippet of Smoke Smoke Smoke from around 1947 made first #1 pop as a country artist.
I was so busy I haven't listened all, but I will try tomorrow WHNR AM stream

WVWP is playing 8/14/1976 for the umpteenth time. They played this last Saturday. WVWP used to dependably play the A show on Saturday and the B show on Sunday (if there was one). Now it's all over the map.

(which hit #1 pop in August 1947) was the second hour optional extra. It did include a piece of the song, but not the entire song which Premiere often edits in when these sort of questions and stories regarding songs and/or artists that weren't in the original countdown (even as extras) are used as optionals.

Will the supersized WTOJ version include the whole Smoke Smoke Smoke song?

I predict we'll hear 10/6/73 next weekend. That was a "Top 40 Recording Acts of the Rock Era" special, with almost all the music from the 1950s and 60s. Premiere's never officially played it, as they usually limit their specials to shows with music mostly from the 1970s and/or 80s (except for the Christmas shows). Maybe 10/13/73, which hasn't been an A since 2009? (Actually that would fit better the following weekend of October 12/13)

Casey's story about Englebert Humperdinck seemed to come out of nowhere in late Sept '76; he hadn't had a hit in a long time. But 2 months later he'd be in the Top 40 with his big comeback, "After the Lovin'".
