"Old Days" made a strong debut at # 17 the following week-Unfortunately,it ran out of gas at # 5. I was scratching my head when Casey said that Chicago had the #1 album but I had not heard any of their songs in the show. That explains it. I have just heard this show and have a few comments. The theme of it if you can go so far as to say such a thing exists is that singers replacing or upstaging who was singing either in person or on the label. Casey says how Paul Wynn replaced Benny Bell as the credited singer on "Shaving Cream". He also mentions how Jimmy Castor upstaged Sugar Robinson at the Apollo theatre when Jimmy was only 5 years old. And Casey talked about how Ben E. King replaced the original laed singer of the Drifters. Ben is also one of an unusual amount of artists from the sunbelt in this show. Ben and Sammy Johns are from North Carolina, Jessi Colter, Linda Ronstadt and Alice Cooper are from Arizona, John Denver is from New Mexico, BJ Thomas and Freddie Fender are from Texas, Lobo is from Florida, Al Green though living in Michigan as an adult was born in Arkansas(essentially the opposite of Alice Cooper), the Ozark Mountain Daredevils are named for and are from a sunbelt location in Missouri and Michael Murphy while not from the sunbelt is from a place known for its outdoor activities, Colorado. Casey says that 2 hits ago Grand Funk hit #1 with "The Locomotion". That was 3 hits ago...2 hits ago was "Shinin' On".

I'll go with 5/12/73 over 5/8/71 for next weekend. 5/12/73 was last featured in 2014. 5/8/71 last aired as the A show in 2018. For the B show, 5/14/77.

Anyone who might be listening to the show on WQMV - are you also having trouble with its stream constantly cutting out?

Weird trivia note: the choruses of this week's number 1 songs in 1976 and 1977 both begin with the same word, "welcome."

The 5/3/1975 AT40: The 70's show had a question letter to Casey about the last song besides the 6 week 1972 #1 "Alone Again (Naturally)" to spend more than 6 weeks at #1. It was Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" in 1968. Believe it or not, the next year in 1976 would have the first #1 song since 1968 to spend more than 6 weeks at #1: "Tonight's the Night" by Rod Stewart.

The 'quick turnarounds' of 1973-75: No song spent more that three weeks at #1 for the full two years between "My Love" in June 1973 (4 weeks) and "Love Will Keep Us Together" in June 1975 (4 weeks also).

The 3/1/75 show is playing instead of 5/3/75. LVK is lovin' this since I missed the 3/1/75 show. As long as we get a 5/3/75 at some point today, it's like ordering the Supersized Coke and them throwing Supersized fries in the bag for free!
