I am quite looking forward to both of these shows! The '79 is one of the rare weeks with 8 debut songs.

When did Premiere last play on AT40: The 70's May 12, 1979? I guess 2011 when it started with hour #2.

Last aired in 2015. It's also in rotation on the iHeart Classic AT40 channel. A list of the previously played 70s shows in the series can be found in this thread.

Am I alone in liking Billy Ocean's sole '70s hit, "Love Really Hurts Without You", more than any of his many '80s smashes? It's the only Billy Ocean 45 I ever bought. Love the production on it--it has that Carolina beach music 'sound'. I first discovered that song on a compilation CD that I bought several years ago that was put together by Eric Records called "Hard To Find 45's On CD Vol.8" That song reminds me of Polly Brown's 1975 hit "Up In A Puff Of Smoke". One song that I also liked on the 76 show was Frankie Valli's "Fallen Angel". Probably that one was his most underrated hit IMO.

"Love Really Hurts Without You" also appeared on "Super Hits Of The 70's-Have A Nice Day" which Rhino Records released in the early 90's.

I think I just heard the three-hour version of 5/12/79 on the 24-hour "AT40" channel-Casey mentioned an upcoming appearance on Dinah Shore's talk show which I remember watching.

Love the production on it--it has that Carolina beach music 'sound'. That would be my 2nd favorite of his right after "Loverboy." Billy also has my least favorite Top 40 title of all-time: "License To Chill."

"Love Really Hurts Without You" also appeared on "Super Hits Of The 70's-Have A Nice Day" which Rhino Records released in the early 90's. I always thought this song by Billy Ocean should've charted higher; agreed with someone that commented this is a Motown-style song.
It reminds me that I always liked the Bonnie Pointer B-side version of Heaven Must Have Sent You better than the disco version, which was a #11 hit in 1979.

Not sure what the optional extras were for 5/20/72 when it was previously played--which was once back in 2008. Optional extras for the only airing of 5/12/79 so far, which was the weekend of May 16-17, 2015 (one week after 5/8/76 last aired btw): Hour #1: "Ring My Bell" - Anita Ward (#90; debuted) Hour #2: "Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now" - McFadden & Whitehead (#61) Hour #3: "Boogie Wonderland" - Earth, Wind & Fire (#69; highest debut) Hour #4: "Minute By Minute" - The Doobie Brothers (#50) Maybe somebody knows where to find extras for the 70's series shows before 2009?

Interesting that there's no posts between 4/16/2008 and 6/4/2008 in this thread. Pages 19-20 is where the gap is. Either nobody posted during that time (which I find hard to believe), or every post in between was deleted.

Whatever the 1972 extras were in 2008, they won't be replayed as is since Ed McMann was announcing them at the time. There at least will be new intros, and quite possibly a new selection of songs.
I'll guess:
"Lean On Me" - Bill Withers "Rocket Man" - Elton John "Layla" - Derek & the Dominoes

Love the production on it--it has that Carolina beach music 'sound'. It is probably my favorite as well--I was hoping it would reach the top 10, but it fell 12 positions short. It does have a 1968-72 sound to it.
