Goof of the Week: right after playing "Heart of Gold" at #7, Casey intro-ed "Lion Sleeps Tonite" as #5. One other mistake in the same intro. In the list of "repeat hits" (cover songs) in that week's survey Casey included Melanie's "Nickel Song" which was an original.

The New Seekers did the Nickel Song as an album cut in 1971.

Technically correct, as Melanie wrote it and it was on her first (1970) LP. But the New Seekers first charted with it, as the second follow-up to 'Look What they've Done To My Song, Ma' (also written by Melanie). Reached #81 in April of '71.

Ah, I didn't know the New Seekers did that song. So Casey's list was correct.

Listening to the '72 show for the umpteenth time this weekend....
I always listen to the repeat shows on Monday on Seacoast Oldies.
I don't understand why "Ain't Understanding Mellow" was not a bigger hit than it was....
The more I hear this song, the more I like it.....in my opinion, a great song and just as good as any other ballad out at that time.

A magnificent example of early '70s 'slow jam' R&B, from a time when there was no shortage of great R&B songs. I'm also surprised that Ms. Eager did not go on to become a bigger singing star. She had an excellent voice, probably still does. At age 72 she lives in the L.A. area and is still active in music and theater. Jerry 'The Iceman' Butler is also still with us at age 80, living in his longtime home city of Chicago.

Optional extras for 3/16/74 are same as 2012:
"Let It Ride" - Bachman-Turner Overdrive "Oh My My" - Ringo Starr "The Loco-Motion" - Grand Funk Railroad

In the list of "repeat hits" (cover songs) in that week's survey Casey included Melanie's "Nickel Song" which was an original. Similarly, on the B show Casey also listed the remakes and said one of them was "I Am Woman" when he actually meant "I'm A Woman". When he read the "list" (there were only three of them) I said to myself "I don't remember anybody other then the guy who does the parody songs Rush Limbaugh plays covering I Am Woman" and I was right.

I don't believe in curses but three of the four songs that were at #29 on the shows played last week were peaking----Softly Whispering I Love You from 1972, Never Let Her Go from 1975 and Ah! Leah! from 1981. Only I'm On Fire from 1985 continued to matriculate its way up the charts.

What are the odds in the next few weeks during the COVID-19/Coronavirus scare that most AT40: The 70's stations (and AT40: The 80's stations) may not play the shows due to this outbreak?

Since most radio stations use digital downloads of the show, I would say slim to none. Classic AT40 shows would probably be one of the only things that you could not contact any virus from.

Curious why you (or anyone) would think that the one would have any effect on the other. What does a virus outbreak have to do with radio broadcasting? Nothing.
