This is the week of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers' first Top 40 hit "Breakdown", which spent just one week at #40. Next weekend will be Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers mania with the aforementioned "Breakdown" with "Don't Do Me Like That" and "Refugee" from the 1980 show. Finally, we'll hear "You Got Lucky" from the 83 show. Looks like my ears will be busy next weekend.

Bill Benjamin from WPNC just announced on Facebook that they're starting the show two hours early tomorrow, at noon, due to the local high school basketball team playing in a tournament. Apparently their game starts during the show's normal timeslot. They're doing 1971.

Suggestions for catching the 1974 show this weekend? As jmack19 mentioned earlier, WPAC (Saturday 7 AM EST, sometimes repeats on Sunday afternoon 4 PM EST) seems more likely to play 1974 than 1971.

As predicted, WPAC played 1974. Surprisingly, WMGN is going with 1971.

Goof of the Week: Casey says "Mr Bojangles" is the NGDB's 2nd Top 40 hit; it was actually their first -- "Buy For Me The Rain" in 1967 peaked at #45. I always thought that one shoulda been done by the Monkees.

I always thought that one shoulda been done by the Monkees. Was going to look that up in Whitburn myself but forgot. Thanks. They would not return to the 40 until '80, with a shortened name (Dirt Band), an almost totally different lineup, and well-known backup vocalists (Linda Ronstadt and Nicolette Larson) on their two hits that year, "An American Dream" and "Make a Little Magic".

Listened to 2/9/74 yesterday-For the most part,it was a good show-The lone exception was "Seasons In The Sun",which I characterize as a musical suicide note.

Listened to 2/9/74 yesterday-For the most part,it was a good show-The lone exception was "Seasons In The Sun",which I characterize as a musical suicide note. The original "Seasons" lyric, by Jacques Brel, is very different. It's a middle-aged man who knows he is dying and says goodbye to everyone who has wronged him -- his wife who cheated on him, his business partner who embezzled from him, etc. It's a *dark* song. Then Rod McKuen came along and made it sappy, made worse by having a young guy sing it.
