So both shows for this week are January shows for which the previous show chronologically aired the last weekend before the year-end special. In the 80s, it's 1988 (last show before the year-end special was 12/26/87), and in the 70s, it's 1973 (last show before the year-end special was 12/16/72). Anyone know the extras for this show's previous airing in 2009?

Anyone know the extras for this show's previous airing in 2009? In 2009 the 1/27/73 optional extras were: Hour #1: "Space Oddity" - David Bowie Hour #2: "Somewhere My Love" - Ray Conniff (original AT40 Extra) Hour #3: "The Cover Of Rolling Stone" - Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show Though Mike Kasem voiced the intros then, so this will have Larry Morgan cutting new speaking parts no matter what songs are chosen (Premiere hasn't replayed this show at all in the 11 years since.)

Prediction for next week's show: 1st Guess - 1/22/77 2nd Guess - 1/30/71 I'll go with the same show for the second straight week. Otherwise, 1970 last aired in October, which means 1971 is now due... If they can hold off on 1971 till 2/6/71, it'll be one that Ken Martin hasn't remastered yet. That one last aired in 2012.

Best Of My Love was just played and I don’t think it was much more than a minute long 😄

Goof of the Week: after playing Ringo's "Only You" at #12, Casey says that was "the 2nd of 4 Beatles on the chart this week" -- but Ringo was the 3rd, with only Paul's "Junior's Farm" yet to be heard. Ooops.

Best Of My Love was just played and I don’t think it was much more than a minute long 😄 Right around 1 minute 55 seconds from the intro where Casey gives the great radio stations mentions to the fade out at the end.

I recall looking forward to the January 18, 1975 program when it originally aired. One reason in particular, "Lady" by Styx was one of five debut singles. The song was initially released nearly two years earlier and received a fair amount of FM radio airplay in Chicago, the group's home. (Note that Styx had a Hot 100 single eight months earlier which also got played in Chicago.) Although "Lady" didn't make a huge impact at first, the song continued to get requests and FM airplay. And it eventually was added to the playlist of, according to Casey, "a big station in Chicago." And that's what brought the song and the group into the national spotlight. A side note, Casey was likely advised not to mention the call letters of that "big station." It was in fact, WLS-AM, the primary Top 40 competitor to WDHF-FM, AT40's Chicago station at the time. Story goes that Wooden Nickel approached WLS asking that Styx's latest single be added to the station's regular rotation. WLS turned them down, but promised that they would play "Lady" nightly at 8 PM on John Records Landecker's show in the hopes of breaking it nationally. The 50,000 watt station could be heard east of the Rockies at night, and was very instrumental in making their plan work. By the way, the single that was rejected was a great note-for-note cover of a #20, 1966 hit for the Knickerbockers. Lies - Styx"Lady" (and "Babe") were written by Styx's Dennis DeYoung for his wife Suzanne. Yesterday, January 18 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Wonky edit at the end of "My Eyes Adored You" in this episode, sounds like it changes keys halfway through the word "adored" (while Casey starts the outro).

Wonky edit at the end of "My Eyes Adored You" in this episode, sounds like it changes keys halfway through the word "adored" (while Casey starts the outro). Many Premiere edits were like that - the new version is sometimes in a slightly different key than the one originally in the show. I noticed that with "Love Is Forever" by Billy Ocean on the 80s show as well. I believe both shows were originally run relatively early in the series and by now, they've fixed the imperfection when editing.

Is the 1975 show on any "on demand" players this week? I was busy for much this weekend and totally forgot about it.

I am thinking said edits were a result of the remastery process, where a song from the original show LPs was replaced with a better quality version by the Premiere editors (or perhaps Shannon?). There are quite a few instances where if you listen closely, you will hear a change in a song's audio quality, pitch, etc. right as Casey starts the outcue. On occasion they play the wrong version of a song as the replacement for the original (see M's "Pop Muzik" on 12/22/79).
