Hmm, I have no idea when this show started but I can figure it out from your comment. Must have started at the top of the previous hour so that you are early in the second hour when "Once You Understand" is being played.

And these are the 3 extras for January 8, 1972, in this order. Who did "Brighter"? EDIT: I think I figured it out, it's a track from Carole King's album Music. This was one of the weeks that Casey played a cut from the week's #1 album as an extra, something that happened irregularly and was discontinued altogether later in 1972. And regarding Carole King, if Casey had done this every week in summer 1971 he could have featured every song on Tapestry as an extra, with several more than once.

...turning the sound 'off' for the next 2 to 3 minutes on WSQL... Hmmm, I think I understand why...

Hmmm, I think I understand why... Clever...kudos! But if you stick with the countdown long enough you get a double helping of pie for dessert. (Well, almost; there's an annoying post-dessert encore that sounds as if it were sung in some odd new key.)

I just wanted to know the name of the song. I’d say if it is “Once You Understand,” I’d suggest it’s even more relevant today. A generation gap and understanding each other’s values exists today, just as it did in 1972. But if you wish to tune out during the song that’s your right. Brian

Curious - did anyone ever hear that Bob Dylan song on the radio back in '72, cause I never did.
And concerning that song by Think, there were many songs in that vein released back in the early to mid 70s...Tom Clay, C Company, Les Crane and Byron MacGregor come to mine in addition.

^No and I did not hear his other hit about a real person, "Hurricane" in 1976, on the radio either. Both peaked at #33 btw. ^When I returned a few weeks ago, it had been quite awhile since I had been on here. We AT40 lovers cannot leave it! Nice to see you here.

Been a while since I've been on here - pop in every now and then. I actually bought "Hurricane" but never heard it on the radio back in the day - but I do like it (especially when "Dazed and Confused" used it)

Re: "George Jackson" by Bobby D., I do recall on local top 40-ish station (580 KIKX) playing it briefly as '71 turned to '72. And I don't think they edited out the 'bad word', either. Noticed that on AT40 they just blanked the first half of the word so it sounded like 'it'.

In general, people tune in to Top 40 radio to feel GOOD, to hear happy, fun music. They don't want to be slapped in the face with tragedy (unless it's sung by the Bee Gees).
