Is it me or does "There'll Never Be" by Switch sound a little bit like Earth, Wind, and Fire's "That's The Way Of The World"? There is a sad connection between Queen and Switch. Each of the bands' leaders- Freddie Mercury of Queen and Bobby DeBarge of Switch died of the disease AIDS just less than four years apart. I know that there was a biopic of Bobby DeBarge on TVOne earlier this year which was met with mixed reviews.

AT40 staff gave Casey some bad info on the '78 show: "Gentle On My Mind" was not Glen Campbell's first top 40 record in 1968, as he stated. It was actually his fourth top 40 appearance, reaching #39 in the fall of that year. It was a re-release, on it's first chart run in the summer of '67 it only reached #62. His next release, "By the Time I Get To Phoenix", was his first top 40 appearance, peaking at #26 in December of '67. "I Wanna Live" and "Dreams Of the Everyday Housewife" both made it into the 30s on the 'Hot 100' after "Phoenix" and before the re-release of "Gentle". On a related note, "Can You Fool" from this week's show is a really good song, too bad it stalled at #38. Would be bad information even if referring to the country chart. A ditty called “ Kentucky Means Paradise” cracked the top 20 of the (then 30-position) Hot C&W Singles chart in early 1963, four years before his second appearanxe on that chart, “ Burning Bridges.” Those two predate “ Gentle On My Mind,” which made the top 30 in August 1967, it’s first go-round in that chart. Trying to figure out the year end show, I think I've narrowed it down to 1970, 1974, 1975, or 1976. Of those, it's been longest since we had 1970 (Dec 2012-Jan 2013). Of the others, 1972 and 1977 were done in the last two years; Pete B said no 1971; 1978 is unlikely just two weeks after getting this regular weekly countdown (plus last year it was the B); and 1973 one week and 1979 the next is possible but I think unlikely as that was done just three years ago (2016-17). Guessing there's a good chance that the year-end special ends up being the Top 80 of 1970, with 1979 being the 'B' show one of those weeks. The other week would likely be either 1973 or the Top 50 of the 1970's. 1978 would've been ideal this year had it not been aired as the 'B' show last year in an "unedited"/4-hour version. Agree with you on the show for the weekend of December 20th -- 12/16/72 would figure to have pretty good odds. Without giving it away, I attempted to stimulate conversation about this a few weeks ago. FYI.

Premiere optional extras for December 16, 1972 in 2009:
Crocodile Rock - Elton John Rocky Mountain High - John Denver Dancing In The Moonlight - King Harvest
I'll go with Top 80 of 1970(A) & Top 100 of 1977(B) for the year-end shows.

Interested to hear how that will sound. Knowing the skill of our remastering expert, I'm sure it will be seamless.

Prediction for next week's show:
1st Guess - Top 80 of 1970, Part 1 2nd Guess - Top 50 of 1979
Well, since we know it's not 1971, the next year end special that hasn't been played in the longest span of time is 1970. I don't think it will be 1979, but Premiere played all of ONE show from that year in the last six months of 2019, so I'll throw that out as the 2nd guess.

One year (one year-end show), and divided over two weekends. at40fg.proboards.com/thread/5762/top-100-1976-revisited

Premiere was weird with 1979 this year: it was an A four times from February to June and only once thereafter, in November (there was also a B in October, which with some effort I was able to find the full four version of). I also thought that 1970 was likely to be the year end show, but am not shocked by 1976; it was one of four years I narrowed it down to (others were 1970, 74, and 75), and hasn't been aired since 2014-15, so not too recent for a replay five years later. Standalone shows from 1976 were played six times this year, but only once after September and that one was one of the now-small number of unaired countdowns.

Yep that does make sense -- 1976 hasn't been played in five years so it should be good for a repeat. A little surprised it wasn't 1970 or '71 this year, but I do like the '76 Top 100. Pete--thanks for the info!

It looks as if 12/16/72 will feature mono to stereo conversion by Ken Martin.

Pete--thanks for the info! Not unhappy that '76 was picked and will listen--don't think I've ever heard it since Nov '76--July '77 was one of the times my local area was without AT40. That said, I was kind of hoping for 1970, as that was the very first year -end countdown I ever heard (duh!) and I remember how fascinating it was to see how the songs from the first (pre-AT40) half of the year ranked overall. Plus, it was one of the two year-end countdowns ('71 being the other) that I sent away for and received a printed copy, complete with Casey's 'action photo'!
