Backing up to this past weekend's 76 show: I've noticed in listening these last few years that Casey seemed to always call the act performing "A Fifth of Beethoven" the Walter Murphy Band. Would anyone know why he didn't include "and the Big Apple," as it's given on the label of the 45? The single was originally credited to "Walter Murphy and the Big Apple Band," as you know. But within just a few days after they released it, the record label found out that there already was a Big Apple Band. They promptly put out a new pressing of the 45 with the shortened artist's name. Label images: www.45cat.com/record/psr45073By the way, according to The Great Rock Discography, that other Big Apple Band went on to become Chic. All they did was make the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!

Prediction for next week's show:
1st Guess - 11/23/74 2nd Guess - 11/20/71
Both years are long overdue, along with 1973. I'm guessing '73 waits until December--do we get '71 and '74 in the next two weeks, in no particular order?

"Let's get it started right here, #40, here's an orchestra that's doing quite well for itself, three hit songs so far this year, Evil Woman, Strange Magic and their latest debuts this week at #40, it's Livin' Thing, from England, The Electric Light Orchestra" Casey Kasem's American Top 40 - The 70's from November 13th, 1976

Thanks so much for this info. The 45 I bought, probably in late August of 76, does have the Big Apple Band listed. I also took a look at cue sheets on the Charis Music Group site--the Big Apple Band is actually credited on the sheets for the 12/15/79 show, when "A Fifth of Beethoven" was played as one of the archive #1 songs of the 70s.

Can't understand why MTV & VH-1 abandoned their original formats & have opted for reality shows-That's a head scratcher. There's no longer a need perceived for video programming TV station. You Tube, Facebook, Tik Tok...etc....

"Victim Of Love": Elton John's 'arrive at the party so late that everyone else has either left or is passed out on the couch' song... Right up there with "Ego" as his 'most forgotten top 40 single of the '70s'.

After listening to the 11.13.76 show - even though it was originally broadcast in stereo - how I wish Ken Martin had updated the music. It sounds so sonically bland.

"Escape" will be heard on this week's countdown from 11/17/79-It's presently featured in a series of commercials for Bounty paper towels.

I find that can make a huge difference in how these shows sound. Some stations broadcast with a more rich enhanced sound, while others have a weaker audio quality.

For my personal use - I've been recording the shows since 2011 and during that time I've sourced from about 50 different stations - so I have a pretty good idea of the streaming quality of a number of stations. KOKZ, WJJR and WTOJ are my primary sources - as I do record multiple stations in case of steaming/computer issues - plus attempting to get all the extras. WODC was a good source when they did the 70's shows. WBBG and WORC were both good quality in their days doing the 70's shows.

Back in 2011 on his namesake website, Nile Rodgers contends his group changed their name because of Murphy's success... www.nilerodgers.com/blogs/planet-c-in-english/196A bonus on that article: a 'toob of Rodgers and band's respectable cover of Earth, Wind and Fire's "Getaway"! dL

While WPAC has usually played four-hour 1979 episodes recently (and made them available on the "Mornings" link), today they played only three hours.
