So based on Pete's post in the 80's thread, 9/30/78 is the show for the last weekend in September. The last time this show aired (September 26-27, 2015), the extras were:
Hour #1: "Blue Collar Man (Long Nights)" - Styx (#52) Hour #2: "Straight On" - Heart (#68) Hour #3: "Took The Last Train" - David Gates (#44)
Given that the Cars also had a few hits in 1978, there exists the possibility that one of these gets swapped out. "Just What I Needed" fell out of the 40 that week, and "My Best Friend's Girl" would hit the Hot 100 on 10/21/78.
Eddie Money, like the Cars, also made his top 40 debut in 1978. He didn't have anything in the Hot 100 the week of 9/30/78, but "Two Tickets To Paradise" dropped out of the Hot 100 that week. Guessing it's the most likely candidate to be added as an extra, though it wouldn't be a surprised to see "Baby Hold On" used either.
Let the speculation begin...

I'll go with: "My Best Friend's Girl" "Straight On" "Two Tickets To Paradise" I'll go with: "Blue Collar Man (Long Nights)" "Straight On" "My Best Friend's Girl" Guessing they won't do both "In Nemoriam" OE's the same week so Eddie Money will be memorialized on the 10/6/79 show with "Maybe I'm A Fool" And as to Matt speculating about which Cars song will be used "Just What I Needed" was a Benjamin Orr vocal.

1978 next week does leave room for the so-far unplayed 11/11/78 countdown in November. I have my doubts about that, since he said that the 11/13/1976 show is coming up in November, implying that it would be the week of November 9-10. I have a feeling that we'll have to wait until next year for that show. But stranger things have happened.

No reason that couldn't happen...

He didn't mention which weekend but if Premiere follows their usual practice again this year this would mean 11/13/76 will be offered on the Nov 9 weekend.

Yeah "Just What I Needed" was led-sung by Ben Orr -- he sounds enough like Ocasek in that song I forget that it was Orr. So maybe "My Best Friend's Girl"?

Am struck by how heavily 'soulful' the first hour of this week's show is: Eight of the songs in the hour were also on the R&B chart, probably all of them charting higher on that chart than on the 'Hot 100'. Also a ninth song, 'In the Midnight Hour', that is a pop remake of an R&B classic.

Among them is the Ohio Players' "Ecstasy", which debuted that week and had one of the oddest runs in AT40 history; 34-34-(off)-34-(off)-35-34-31-off for good. It and Kris Kristofferson's "Why Me"--also on this show--may be the only two songs (not sure of this) that made two top 40 fall-offs and reentries during the same run (i.e. not being reissued years later.)

The group Cross Country who recorded "In The Midnight Hour" were actually members of The Tokens, who are best known for their 1961 hit "The Lion Sleeps Tonight".

"Space Race" was one of the optional extras from 9/22/73-It was played on "American Bandstand" when the ABC affiliates were about to cut to a station break.

The variety on any given week....soul, pop, country and rock back-to-back-to-back, with an occasional novelty song thrown in. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll ever experience that again in our lifetimes.
