Casey told a funny story in the 7/10/76 show about an Australian guy with the last name Abba, who was getting annoyed with people constantly calling him and singing the same-named group's songs. He was even hearing unasked-for dedications of their songs to him on the radio. Casey apologized to Mr. Abba but said "sorry, I have to do it" leading into "Mamma Mia". I guess if Long Distance Dedications had existed by then Casey would have refused to honour any such letters dedicating ABBA songs to the unlucky Sydney resident who didn't even really follow pop music.

Was Hippie Radio the only station that has #1 Hits of the 70's on this weekend? Anyone else know of a station playing that Ken Martin Special? I used to listen to holiday specials on WODC, but they no longer play Casey. WOON Woonsocket RI (Sat 1pm EDT) played last 3 hours of Part 4 Memorial Day weekend. WTKU Atlantic City (Sun 8am EDT) aired all 4 hours of Part 4 the next day. WSQL ran the last 3 hours of the #1 hits show (76-78) on the 4th at 1 local time and then they played the Triathalon of Rock n Roll following. WSQL started the 76 show earlier than normal today. They are in the third hour of the show at 6:30 eastern time.

Goof of the Week: Casey refers to Beethoven's 5th as having been written "107 years ago". Actually should've said 170. Typo on his script?

I assume that there are no other stations running the full, four-hour "#1 Hits Of The 1970s - Part 5" show?

Optional extras for 7/15/72:
Hour #1: "Iko Iko" - Dr. John (NR) Hour #2: "Everybody Plays The Fool" - Main Ingredient (#94; debuted) Hour #3: "Beautiful Sunday" - Daniel Boone (#58)
Premiere salutes the recently deceased Dr. John with an extra; it replaces the Rolling Stones' "Happy" which was used before. (BTW, we have yet to hear a 1973 show this year which includes his sole AT40 hit, "Right Place Wrong Time".)
7/15/78 is the same as in 2015:
Hour #1: "Love Is In The Air" - John Paul Young (#78; debuted) Hour #2: "You Needed Me" - Anne Murray (#88; debuted) Hour #3: "Kiss You All Over" - Exile (#72)

KLNC & WMGN are going with 1978 this Saturday. I've kind of given up making sense of WMGN's choices. Last month they played 1971 and three hour 1979, which they hadn't usually done over the last several years, so I thought maybe now they were playing all A's from whatever date, but this week they skip 1972 in favour of 1978 which was done less than a month ago? At least there's an option (both this week and early next Saturday) for those looking for 1978. (For the 80s they went with 1988.)

I'm thinking (and hoping) that they'll concentrate on playing most of the yet-unaired shows in August. Of course, they would not be able to do all of them because of the two adjacent 1975 shows. Also, since the 1971 and 1972 shows are only two days apart, they might just do one or the other. But it is possible. Here is one scenario they could go with: July 27, 2019 - July 28, 1973 August 3, 2019 - August 2, 1975 August 10, 2019 - August 9, 1975, if they don't do the August 2 show August 17, 2019 - August 19, 1972 August 24, 2019 - August 21, 1971 A few countdowns to look forward to in the next month or so... WINNER -- July 27, 2019 - July 28, 1973 (stand alone)WINNER -- August 10, 2019 - August 9, 1975 (stand alone)WINNER -- August 17, 2019 (adjusted broadcast date) - August 21, 1971 (the A show)
