I am a bit puzzled - this week's show is announced by Premiere as of 1/16/71, but what they actually play appears to me to be the countdown from the week before... or am I just confusing things? (chart date - show date?) Up until May 8, 1971, the AT40 chart that they used was a week ahead of time. This show would have been played the weekend of 1/9/71 originally.

Perhaps Scott can confirm this......... I believe we'll hear a program from January 1974 this weekend. If we're going back to 1974 this weekend on terrestrial radio -- specifically, to January 26, 1974 -- it's a noteworthy program. (Monk, USA Network's anal detective, wonders out loud why, since the new year began, 1973 was skipped over -- 1971, 1972, 1976, and now 1974. ) For variety in a Top 40 countdown, the 1-26-74 show was a great program. It had (almost) everything -- rock, soul, country, bubblegum, easy listening, comedy (Cheech & Chong), and spoken word. In fact, both versions (Byron MacGregor and Gordon Sinclair) of the spoken "Americans" were played. Although they were both in the Top 40 simultaneously for more than one week, this was the only AT40 program where Casey played both versions. By the way, the 70s program is now heard Sundays on WLDE in Fort Wayne, Indiana, if you're in the vicinity.

Today was Jan 27, 1979. I believe they played the full 4 hours because normally the show lasts about 2.5 hours. Today it lasted roughly 3.5 hours. Did they change policy, or am I mistaken?

No, that was XM radio that played the show from 1979. The terrestrial radio plays the show from 1975, Feb 1'st! So no, no change.

My mistake for posting in the wrong thread. I guess 4-hour shows are fine on XM, but are just not played that often.

Call me Nostrodamus-I correctly predicted the countdown would be from 2/11/78-What a week that was!-The Bee Gees spent a second week at # 1 with "Stayin Alive"-If that wasn't enough,"Night Fever" was hot on its heels-Baby brother Andy Gibb was headed for # 1 with "Love Is Thicker Than Water"-"Emotion" by Samantha Sang, which was written by Barry Gibb, was headed towards the top five-No doubt about it,the Gibbs were just as hot as The Beatles were during this week in 1964.
