There are other shows when AT40 skipped Byron MacGregor's version. Is this the first time Premiere has edited in that version? First time I've heard Premiere edit one of the skipped versions in. From Pete's book, here's what versions were played: 1/26/74--first week with both versions, both played. Byron's version in its third week in the 40. 2/2/74--Byron's is skipped. 2/9/74--Gordon's is skipped. 2/16/74--Byron's is skipped. Last week with both in the 40, only Byron's version is in the 40 for three more weeks.

I'm curious what we consider the five dirtiest ever played on AT40 were. At the time the other four would have been three that were mentioned upthread and one by the same artist as one of those three. In chronological order: -Jungle Fever -My Ding-A-Ling -Rockin' And Reelin' -Pillow Talk (I had actually forgotten about that one until mga707 mentioned it) -Love To Love You Baby The "dirtiest song in 2.5 years" reference was going back to Rockin' And Reelin'. Purely subjective, three more candidates: *Rod Stewart’s Tonight’s The Night *Meri Wilson’s Telephone Man *Meatloaf’s Paradise By The Dashboard Light

So this marks the second time they have edited in a skipped song.

^Ken did a really nice job with the Christmas shows putting those missing songs back in as well.

Which stations will be playing the 1978 show? (I have to work today, so none of those broadcasts would be any good).

WXXM Rewind 92.1 FM Madison, Wisconsin is now airing this Saturday morning for American Top 40: The 70's the A show of 2/2/1974. Guess WXXM for AT40: The 70's is sticking to A shows for AT40: The 70's all the time in its Saturday morning time slot.
Even for the outro of the #40 song by Cher called "Dark Lady" you can hear Casey singing along with the last lyric of the song.

The next time AT40 would skip a song would be in late 1990 twice when a version of "Unchained Melody" by the Righteous Brothers, since there were 2 on AT40 at the same time - the original 1966 version and the newly recorded 1990 version - was not played.

I believe there were two or three times when only one or the other version was played. One week, they played a medley of versions that had charted over the years. The other week, or weeks, I guess that they just didn't edit as many songs in the countdown.

What? I thought we would only have to suffer through one "Americans" on this show, not both! Pete's book says that Byron's cover version wasn't played, yet here it is on-air as I type this. Premiere must've edited that back in. That track is only 6 seconds in my original copy, which is Casey simply stating what you typed. And now I am hearing the added in by Premiere "Byron MacGregor's Americans" which is at #5 on AT40: The 70's 2/2/1974, of course.

The cue sheet on Charis Music group for 2-2-74 confirms it wasn't played. Premier pitchforked the puck ahead and slipped one past the goalie. It was skipped when the show aired in 2018.
