seems they dont play opt xtras... but wvwp does, although i accidentally missed 1st opt xtra oh wait, now i realize that was jan 23, 1971, not jan 16, 1971. wvwp is jan 16. WVWP did indeed play the hour 1 Gordon Lightfoot extra. They just played the hour 2 Platters extra. I've been bouncing back and forth between the two Jan. '71 shows.

Casey noted on the 1/16/71 show that "Pay to the Piper" was the fourth hit in the past year for Chairmen Of The Board. Their previous two had just barely squeaked onto the top 40. Each had two weeks in the 40, and both peaked at #38: "(You've Got Me) Dangling On a String" in June of '70 (40-38-off) followed by "Everything's Tuesday" in September (two weeks at 38).

There's a hint that this coming weekend's AT40: The 70's show is from 1/24/1976 last played in 2017.

I doubt if many country stations were playing Dolly's disco-fied "Baby I'm Burnin'". the flip, "I Really Got the Feeling", was the side that was #1 on the Country Singles chart this week in '79. Back in the Quad Cities, I seem to remember our local country station (WHBF-AM, 1270) playing “ Baby I’m Burning” quite frequently. Probably “double the new/current Dolly” as they likely also played “ I Really Got the Feeling” quite a bit. Don’t know about the FM outlet (the then-new WZZC (101.3 FM)). Brian

The big question though - is 1/24/1976 a standalone or could it be the B show? It sounds like based on the hint that it's more than likely a standalone show (just like the 80s show coming up) than a paired A/B show.

I bet the first 1975 AT40: The 70's show for 2024 could be 2/15/1975 last played in 2018, but will 1975 go to standalone status or still be paired with 1976-1979 B shows?

Brian I guess for Dolly Parton 45 singles one side would be serviced to country stations and one side would be serviced to CHR/Pop and AC stations. Did Dolly's "Baby I'm Burning" ever sneak into Billboard's Disco Chart which is rare for country music artists?

So apparently no changes in their '70s standalone 'window' of January 1976 through September 1978.

Did Dolly's "Baby I'm Burning" ever sneak into Billboard's Disco Chart which is rare for country music artists? It does not appear " Baby I'm Burning" made the main dance/disco chart, but a remix of the song made the Dance Club Songs chart – where the song was paired with "I Wanna Fall in Love," which was also on Dolly's 1978 album Heartbreaker (along with the title track and " I Really Got the Feeling") – and reached No. 15. I can also say there were a couple very disco-ish songs in the late 1970s that were sizable hits on the country side. The biggest was probably Bill Anderson's " I Can't Wait Any Longer," which reached No. 4 on the Hot Country Singles chart in July 1978. I think Ronnie Milsap's " Get It Up" (the flip of his top-5 country hit " In No Time At All") had strong disco sounds, even though it was released in the late summer of 1979 and thus at the very end of the classic disco era. Brian PS – I remember "Baby I'm Burning" being on the country station because it reminded me of some game show sound effects that were in use at the time. Being 6 years old and sometimes watching these religiously, the synthesizers and so forth in the song were much akin to the buzzer sound effects some of the game shows of the era were using (as buzzers, bells, transition music, etc.). A couple more bits of trivia: * When it debuted on the Hot Country Singles chart on Nov. 25, 1978, the song was listed as "Baby I'm Burning"/"I Really Got the Feeling," before the two songs were flipped and remained that way through the rest of the chart run. On the pop chart, it was always listed as "Baby I'm Burning"/"I Really Got the Feeling." * During its original top-40 chart run (Dec. 2, 1978 through Feb. 3, 1979) on American Country Countdown, and then on the year-end 1979 program, "I Really Got the Feeling" was the only side played. However, as part of the ACC Archives feature (playback of all No. 1 hits 1970-1989), on the Dec. 19, 1987 program, Bob Kingsley played the flip side "Baby I'm Burning" and introduced it as such, as the 286th No. 1 hit of the 1970s.

My reference book only goes from 1974 to 2003. Baby I'm Burnin - #15 in 1978/1979 9 to 5/House of the Rising Sun - #77 in 1981 Potential New Boyfriend - #14 in 1983 Peace Train - #23 in 1997

Melanie (Safka) had died at age 76. She would have been 77 on Feb. 3. On this date in 1972 she had 3 songs on the Hot 100. Four weeks later (week ending 2/26/72) all three would be in the top 40: Her December 1971/January 1972 #1 smash "Brand New Key" in its final week on both the 40 and the 100; follow-up "Ring the Living Bell"; and a release on a former label, "The Nickel Song".

The weekend of 1/24/1976 marked two debuts for Donny and Marie. Their hit Deep Purple Dreams debuted in the top 40 at #36 and their TV show debuted on Friday 1/23 featuring Bob Hope, Olivia Newton-John (#30) and KC & the Sunshine Band (#35) as guests.
