I understand what you’re saying. I’ll always be an advocate for AT40 shows that are complete, undoctored and played as originally produced. Fortunately, there are many who choose to preserve them in that way.
And even though Premiere and XM present the shows using their own controls, there are still numerous reasons to be grateful that vintage AT40 countdowns continue to be broadcast decades later.
Agree Pete, and I hope I don't sound ungrateful for the re-broadcasting of these shows each week--the classic AT40s have become a regular part of my weekends over the past 15 years, and maybe that's what makes me more passionate about it. I just feel all this latest editing seems unnecessary, since for the first 10+ years of the 70s series, there was no such editing (other than songs being shortened and some of the original extras being extracted as optional extras, but I totally get those edits and don't have a problem with them) and there hasn't been any editing of the 80s shows (with one exception in the last couple years). As a long time fan of the original AT40 shows, the biggest appeal is Casey himself and these edits remove parts of Casey, but I'm trying to figure out what the value in that is? If it's just to hear a few more seconds of some of the songs, it doesn't seem worth losing Casey's speaking parts to do so.
Just one man's opinion I know. I'm guessing there are others that feel differently, but I do feel the better product is with more of the original presentation and less of Casey getting edited out in places.
