I doubt it'll be this year. Last post I remember from him is it's on his radar, but gave no timetable. 1971 took a ton of work, I imagine, and 1979 will be even more, since there's 4 hours to do instead of 3. We can just enjoy djjoe1960 's top 100 of 1979 from Cash Box in the meantime. 🙂 So this next new AT40 creation special could be next year if not before 2021 ends?

I'll let Ken chime in on it, but I just wouldn't expect it this year.

It appears that next weekend's show is from October 24, 1970, which last aired in 2012. This is the 2nd of five 70, 71, or 72 'A' shows left for 2021 as per the hint provide by Ken.

Well, I think it's safe to say 1971 and 1972 are out as far as year-enders go for this year ("A" show only). I also wouldn't expect an expanded 1979 year-ender either.
Speaking of year-enders, IIRC, the expanded year-end for 1973 was a WTOJ exclusive. 1971 wasn't. Guessing 1973 has a shot?

A few thought on the B-word.... I don't recall any of the songs in question being censored at the time in my area. As to why Premiere and/or some stations might censor one song and not another: "Bad Blood" is calling a woman that word. Hall & Oates say "IT'S a b-tch"--no reference to an actual person. Elton said "THE b-tch is back"--again, no female reference. If anything, it's Elton calling himself the word. The Meredith Brooks song--she's calling herself the word. So...I guess if you're calling someone else a b-tch, programmers object. If it's yourself or the situation, apparently that's okay? That is an excellent analysis. Rod Stewart's "Ain't Love a B!tch" also got lots of uncensored AOR play; same reasoning. Of course Elton calling himself that word was also a VERY gay thing to do, and (like "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road") that aspect went completely unnoticed by most folks in 1974.

So if we had only five 1970-72 shows left for the year, then one of those three years is already done for 2021, except maybe as a B to a four hour A (and starting the first or second weekend of November the Christmas shows will presumably fill that role). 1973, 74, and 78 haven't been A's since August, and 1976 since June.

Ooops you are correct. I had the wrong year (73) in my notes.

This week's optional extras:
A: October 24, 1970:
Hour #1: "Love Is A Many Splendored Thing" - The Four Aces (original AT40 extra) Hour #2: "I Want To Be Wanted" - Brenda Lee (original AT40 extra) Hour #3: "I Think I Love You" - The Partridge Family (#41)
The Beatles' "Yesterday", an optional extra in 2012, is in the main show this time. So is Santana's "Black Magic Woman", the only one of the four original extras to stay in the show both then and now.
B: October 28, 1978:
Hour #1: "Halloween" - John Carpenter (NR) Hour #2: "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" - Barbra Streisand & Neil Diamond (#48; highest debut) Hour #3: "Hold The Line" - Toto (#61) Hour #4: "Le Freak" - Chic (#82; debuted)
"Halloween" is of course the title theme from the film that Carpenter directed and scored, and was released that week in 1978.
