I'm surprised that five letter obscenity was a problem with "Bad Blood"-Two years later,"Rich Girl" by Hall & Oates went to # 1 & the lyrics contained that same offensive word-Some radio programmers didn't seem to mind.

Right, and what do you do about Elton's "The B!tch Is Back"? Casey even says the title during the intro and/or outcue for almost every occurrence of that song.

Are there any stations that will be playing the four-hour 1979 show today? (My guess would be probably not).

Stations didn't have a problem with "Bad Blood" at the time; it's only recently that I've heard oldies stations (and Premiere) censoring it. The Elton song is interesting -- obviously he was the biggest star in the world so how do you NOT play his latest single? So most stations just shrugged and went with it. In NYC, notoriously cautious WABC (which had banned "My Ding-A-Ling" and "Cover of Rolling Stone") played "B!tch is back" and left that word in... BUT they cut out the line about sniffing glue!

What about that 1997 hit by Meredith Brooks whose title was that same five letter obscenity?

A few thought on the B-word.... I don't recall any of the songs in question being censored at the time in my area. As to why Premiere and/or some stations might censor one song and not another: "Bad Blood" is calling a woman that word. Hall & Oates say "IT'S a b-tch"--no reference to an actual person. Elton said "THE b-tch is back"--again, no female reference. If anything, it's Elton calling himself the word. The Meredith Brooks song--she's calling herself the word.
So...I guess if you're calling someone else a b-tch, programmers object. If it's yourself or the situation, apparently that's okay?

It appears that next weekend's show is from October 24, 1970, which last aired in 2012.

I doubt it'll be this year. Last post I remember from him is it's on his radar, but gave no timetable. 1971 took a ton of work, I imagine, and 1979 will be even more, since there's 4 hours to do instead of 3. We can just enjoy djjoe1960's top 100 of 1979 from Cash Box in the meantime. 🙂

What about that 1997 hit by Meredith Brooks whose title was that same five letter obscenity? I remember Casey saying that word back in 1997 on CT40. I'll admit, I got a good laugh out of it. Sometimes the B word is funnier said by itself than in a sentence Imagine if the Rolling Stones had released "Brown Sugar" as a double sided hit back in 1971? Here are the Rolling Stones with "Brown Sugar" backed with "Bit**"
