If the May 13, 1978 show gets aired, here's my picks for extras: * "Almost Summer" – Mike Love & Celebration ... i.e., The Beach Boys. * "If I Ever See You Again" – Roberta Flack. Debuted way down at No. 109, this eventually became a respectable No. 24 hit. * "Wheel In the Sky" – Journey. Amazingly, just peaked at No. 57, but a frequent and popular song with oldies/classic hits radio. Brian Ummm look 2 posts above I like Brian's picks better--way less 'fried', especially the first two. When I saw the BBs in concert in April 1978 (bad show, Brian was a walking zombie and Dennis was nearly falling-down drunk), Celebration was the opening act. Love joined them onstage to sing "Almost Summer" and (IIRC) one other song. Most of their short set was instrumental.

I believe affiliates have the option to present Mark Elliott's BONUS programs beyond this weekend.
Let's hope Ken Martin's station will air one or both between now and the upcoming holiday weekends, Memorial Day and/or 4th of July, with a little advance notice.

I believe that if any station airs the Mark Elliott "bonus" show,it can't be aired in place of the regular weekly offering. So for example if KOKZ wants to air the "bonus" show since Mark Elliott was born in Cedar Rapids,it can't air at 9 a.m. local time on Saturday or 8 a.m. local time on Sunday which is the normal times they run the regular weekly show.

This is where I really miss CountdownMike Peteski. I think WODC would have been a great bet to air at least one of the bonus shows. If stations air them, I think it would be soon while Mark's death is still fresh, certainly Memorial Day is in play but I can't see after that. Yeah, too bad WODC dropped the AT40 shows entirely and Mike Eiland is MIA. However, that station started having 8 minute (!) commercial breaks that were unbearable with Mike cut-ins to tell you that the show airs at that time each week (duh) and what number they were up to (since who could remember after eight minutes of ads?)

What's up with Premiere not playing the theme from "Shaft"?-Is it because listeners would cringe when they hear Isaac Hayes utter a certain obscenity?

There is a censored version that many stations still play, so there's no reason to leave the song out entirely for "damm" or "mother" But the teaser for the Issac Hayes Shaft song was accidentally left in the last 3 times this 5/14/1977 AT40 show aired on AT40: The 70's even though the extra was omitted not even demoting it to OPTIONAL EXTRA status. And will Premiere restore the "Jamie" story by Casey in the 5/14/1977 show this time? This was also left out/omitted from the last 3 AT40: The 70's 5/14/1977 airings.

That's a great point -- Mark was originally from CR -- you wonder if KOKZ would want to pick up one or both of those?

I enjoy reading the old Billboard issues--one is from my 18th b-day (1979), and the other, 1971, saw a song debut on the easy listening chart called "Love Looks So Good on You." I never knew the title until a few years ago, and I finally got to hear that underrated MOR tune, which I had heard often as a 10-year-old that May/June. For decades, I thought it was by a vocal group such as the Lettermen, but it was by a solo artist.

It was the 'B' side to his last top 40 single, his cover of Don McLean's "And I Love You So".

It was one of those songs that became an earworm for me--it had lyrics appropriate for this time of year, so for years I thought it was out during the month of May. Fifty years ago at this time, I was still listening to the station my parents listened to--i would begin to listen to top-40 radio about a year later.

Any idea who might carry the countdown from 5/13/78 when the late Mark Elliott filled in for Casey?
