We're both on the same page, wahoo. I'm greatly anticipating both shows next week, if indeed they are '77 and '86. My problem with early '80s Top 40 radio, BTW, is that it's too sleepy - just as was early '70s Top 40 music - but unlike the early '70s, early '80s T40 music had ZERO in the way of socio-political content. We traded Edwin Starr, Simon & Garfunkel, the Grateful Dead, and CSNY for REO Speedwagon, Journey, Survivor, and the J. Geils Band. The most lopsided trade ever, prior to the recent one made between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Boston Red Sox. Top 40 radio in the early '80s was the most bland and empty of any three-year era in my lifetime. By far. That's why I despise it so much. Yeah I can't help but believe that the early 80's (especially 1980 and '81) were the result of a "Disco Backlash". Seems like there was so much upbeat dance music during the last few years of the 70s, but when Disco died, there was a movement toward soft rock/ballads and country crossovers. REO Speedwagon epotimizes the crappiness of that kind of music, of which there was far too much of in those couple years (plus Kevin Cronin's singing style is flat out cringe-worthy).

If you are saying that top 40 radio was bland in the early 80s, I agree with you to some degree. If you are saying that was in the top 40 itself was bland, than I disagree with you. Top 40 radio was basically just playing the AC songs and avoiding rock hits such as "The Breakup Song" by Greg Kihn and R&B songs like "Forget Me Nots" by Patrice Rushen that I alluded to on another thread. I remember reading an article in Billboard around this time in 1981 how someone in Boston IIRC was upset that in order to hear "The Breakup Song", he had to change the station from top 40 radio to an AOR format because things had become stratified. I concur with that sentiment. That said, I will enjoy this show since it in fact, the entire top 40 obviously and thus, a good mix of songs. And that Journey song is one of their best IMO unlike the followup.

Well, somebody had to be playing them; "The Breakup Song" peaked at #18 in Radio & Records, only three notches below its Billboard peak, while "Forget Me Nots" got to #20 in R&R which was actually higher than in Billboard.

Alright, so I'm not complaining a bit about the '81 show this week...thought it was a great show. I actually liked hearing a number of the "lost" hits, particularly Balance's "Breaking Away". I also dig the Kim Carnes cut "Draw of the Cards".
Anyway, onto next week's shows. For the 70's series, it would figure to be an early 70's week, but hard to eliminate many shows outright, so we'll go with the year that currently has the longest drought. SXM...well it would figure to be a late 70's week for them, and even thought '78 and '79 should be the most likely choices, they don't work since 9/15/79 was aired in 2010 and 9/16/78 was aired in 2009...well maybe a repeat of 9/16/78 could happen, but I will bet against it.
You can eliminate darn near every possible show in the 80's for the coming week, except for three. And of those, two are fairly unlikely, while the other is in the year now on the clock for the longest drought. Could we have all of the early 80's years for four straight weeks? I am going to guess we do...
80s - 9/13/80 70s - 9/15/73 SXM - 9/11/76

I figured the same in the '80s thread, wahoo.
It will likely be 1980, 1984, and 1986 in that order for the last three weekends of September. Which - now that I have found the 9/13/86 countdown on 4Shared - I am not concerned about such a long wait for another 1986 show. To me, musically speaking, '86 was the best its decade had to offer.
Over on the '70s side of things, I'm on a four-week winning streak. Can I make it five by staying with my long-held prediction of the very same week you picked, 9/15/73?
Why not!?

My heart says 1980, but my head says they won't go 82, 81, 83, 80; plus I don't want to duplicate Casey lite: Casey lite: 1980 80s: 1986 70s: 1973 SXM: 1978 I was thinking the same thing, but unless Premiere either wants to skip ahead or behind a week or play shows that have aired in the last two years, then only 1980 is left. Of the post-1983 shows for Sept. 15-16: 9/15/84: guest hosted 9/14/85 (i.e. Dead Dog Dedication week): played in 2010 9/13/86: played in 2011 9/12/87: guest hosted 9/19/87: played in 2010 That said, they've been willing to stretch the dates before in September. 9/13/80 was played by Premiere on Sept. 26/27, 2009, two weeks after its most logical airdate and in a month in which they also ran 1982, 1983, and 1984 (9/8/84 was played on Sept. 19/20 that year, so that could also be a possibility.)

I'll try my hand at predicting shows on this forum:
• SXM: Sept. 17, 1977. • AT40: The 70s: Sept. 15, 1973. • AT40: The 80s: Sept. 20, 1980.

I'll try my hand at predicting shows on this forum: • SXM: Sept. 17, 1977. Brian SXM just did 1977 last week (Sept. 1-2, when they played 8/27/77). While they've arguably been overplaying that year (and 1975 as well), they won't play it THAT close together.

I was thinking the same thing, but unless Premiere either wants to skip ahead or behind a week or play shows that have aired in the last two years, then only 1980 is left. 19/20 that year, so that could also be a possibility.) True--but other than in January, when shows are sparse for the first week or two, Premiere has not strayed that far from the current weekend dates since 2009. Not that they couldn't start doing that again, but until they do...I am shying away from guessing anything that far removed. A few other shows to add to your list: 1981 - is out because they just played it, and I don't see them airing 1981 twice in three weeks like they did with 1984 in July 2010. 9/11/82 is a sub show (though 9/18/82 is a remote possibility) 1983 - is of course being playing this week 9/20/86 would be the other possibility besides 9/18/82 that would have a chance of being aired (FWIW, I am holding out for a couple of weeks to predict 9/27/86)

Predictions for next week's shows...guess I assumed wrong that 1980 would be the leading candidate. It makes sense that they will do 9/20/86 this week--they really needed to fit '86 in sometime in September. As for 1980, if they don't do 9/20/80 the following week, we will likely be looking at the 10/11/80 show about a month from now. I had 1984 down for next week, but it looks like I will have to shift gears and bump '84 back a week or four.
The 70's show...well a little bit of a curveball this week with the two shows. I love that we're getting a '79 show, even though it looked to be an early 70's week. Then again, we're also getting a '70 show. Given all that, let's throw out 1973...again. If my Premiere and SXM 70's guesses are correct, these would each be shows that the other network has played in the last two years, but haven't yet aired themselves. For the week of Sept. 22nd:
80's - 9/20/80 70's - 9/22/73 SXM - 9/21/74

Totally caught me off-guard with the show selections for next week, too, wahoo. I had '73 and '80 for my predictions, as well. It likely will be over three months without a show from the first year of the 1980s. Meanwhile, we get a second 1979 show in as many months on the '70s side of things. Go figure!
I'm going to be stubborn and say we get 9/22/73 and 9/22/84 for the following week. I'm not going with 1980, as the 9/20 show is a repeat. IF...that means anything. LOL

It is getting harder to predict with Premiere double dipping and now apparently XM doing a switcharoo! Casey lite & 80s: 1980 70s: 1973 SXM: 1978 Agree--as if it weren't hard enough to predict in the second half of the year with Premiere typically going away from even distribution of years, and instead seeming to favor certain years. And I will second your SXM choice and say 9/23/78.

My predictions for Premiere 80s:
September 22: 9/22/1984 (if not guest-hosted, otherwise I'm betting on 1987) September 29: 9/26/1987 - it's definitely hosted by Casey, as I remember Casey introducing Go West's first top 40 hit "Don't Look Down (The Sequel)" when it debuted at #40 that weekend, and Casey mentioned it was the first of 6 debuts that week. If 1987 airs on September 22, I will go with 1984 for September 29.

For the following week 9/29/84 is a decent possibility, as it was last played five years ago; 9/28/85 would also work. 9/26/87 was aired just one year ago so I don't think it'll be repeated that soon.

So after SXM did their little switch last week to '72, causing me to shift gears and pick 9/23/78 for this week, I managed to hit the trifecta. I am going to make a risky pick for next week, so let's see if it pans out.
The 80's series is the easy one this time around. The way I see it, three of the eight years can be eliminated outright, and the three others would fall under the "highly unlikely" (though not 100% out) category. That leaves two years that stand out well above any of the others, and I am guessing they are the two that we will hear in the next two weeks. 1984 was played the first week in October last year, so if my gut is correct, we would have to get a repeat of the 9/29/84 show next week.
As for the 70's...I am sticking with the assumption that we hear 10/7/78 this year, which would probably have to happen the weekend of October 6th. That means an early-mid 70's show for next week. Premiere has yet to air either 9/30/72 or 9/28/74. I will go with the latter of the two, but if we get the '72 show, does that mean an alternate to go with it? Recent history would suggest that we do, but for now I will take the easier road (edit: as mkarns pointed out, 9/30/72 is a special that Premiere almost certainly would not air due to the high volume of 60's songs it would contain).
SXM...hmmm...well they haven't played '74 in forever, so is this a weekend that both networks air the same show? I will actually guess that they give us another '70 show...
For the weekend of Sept. 29th: 80s - 9/29/84 70s - 9/28/74 SXM - 9/26/70
