So 1987 came through -- the show on my 14th birthday (did I already say that?)! As for the 70's, well 1976 would have been my 3rd choice, but that's pretty much par for the course with the 70's lately. As for the week of August 25th:
80's - 8/23/80 70's - 8/28/71 SXM - 8/25/79
I am on the fence between 1980 and '82 for next week--guessing that between this weekend and the weekend of Sept. 15th we will get each of those years. I will say if we get 8/28/82 (or 8/21/82) next week, we will get 9/13/80 the week of Sept. 15th. If we get 8/23/80 next week, we get 9/18/82 on Sept. 15th. 1981 is a strong possibility, but I will hold off a week and guess 9/5/81 for the first week in September. There you go...my story and I'm sticking to it.
For the 70's series, not surprising we got a late 70's show for this week, and for SXM, I will guess a late 70's show for next week. They have a little bit of a '78 drought going, but droughts seem to be a way of life for the folks at SXM.

Since I have no other hobby than this, I have assembled my predictions for both the 70s and 80s series' through the month of September. To the best of my knowledge, these shows were not co-hosted. Here goes!
First, the 70s: Aug. 25: 8/28/71 (never aired) Sept. 1 : 8/30/75 (aired 2008) Sept. 8: 9/10/77 (never aired) Sept. 15: 9/15/73 (never aired) Sept. 22: 9/23/72 (never aired) Sept. 29: 9/30/78 (aired 2008)
Now, for the 80s: Aug. 25: 8/23/80 (never aired) Sept. 1: either 8/29/81 or 9/5/81 (neither have been aired) Sept. 8: 9/6/86 (never aired) Sept. 15: 9/18/82 (aired 2009) Sept. 22: 9/22/84 (never aired) Sept. 29: 9/24/83 (never aired)
So, there. Corrections and admonishments welcome.

How did this get here?

So I changed my guess from '82 to '80 at the last minute...and it cost me. As for the '70s show...well Premiere didn't push it out past 3 months with 1971, so we get a show that SXM aired in 2010. Of course, it's always nice to hear from Premiere since we can assume we'll hear the extras, questions, etc.
Another drought about to reach 3 months that figures to end very soon is 1981...and I would be quite surprised if that's not the show we get next weekend. If '81 isn't played, it means Premiere would have to wait until the latter half of September for the 9/26/81 show, since 9/12/81 was hosted by Gary Owens and 9/19/81 was played last year. As for the 70's, well it would have to be a late 70's week, which likely means one show this time. So, how 'bout another year pushing a 3-month drought? For the week of September 1st:
80's - 9/5/81 70's - 9/6/75 (this show aired in 2009) SXM - 9/1/79

Lasvegaskid, Premiere aired 81-82 back-to-back just last November/December. I think it could happen again.
For next week, I'm sticking with August 30, 1975 for the 70s show, with either 8/29 or 9/5 1981 as the 80s show.

I would have said 1981 was a slam dunk, however, I can't see them doing 81-82 back to back. Casey lite: 1984 80s: 1986 70s: 1975 SXM: 1978 Pointpark is right--they played 11/28/81 and 12/4/82 back-to-back last fall. Also keep in mind that 9/2/78 is a sub show...(unless you meant 8/26/78)

Also keep in mind that 9/2/78 is a sub show...(unless you meant 8/26/78) 9/2/78 is a sub show mostly or totally because Casey mentioned on the 8/26/78 show that people could now send in their own LDDs and so they needed a week to start receiving those letters. Even that had to have been barely enough time. If someone heard the show over the weekend of 8/26 and 8/27/78, the earliest they could have gotten something in the mail would have been the 28th. No email or even faxing on those days! So AT40 would have gotten it no earlier than Wed. the 30th. I think they recorded the show on Wed and/or Thur. So on the 30th and/or 31st is when they would have recorded the show for 9/9/78. So obviously the 9/2/78 show could not have any LDDs and thus a guest host made sense so Casey could have a long run of hosting shows thereafter. In fact, he did not miss a show the rest of 1978. My guess is they had very few LDD requests to choose from for the second ever LDD.

Hey, look! A thread for predicting next week's shows! How did this get here? Understand that this thread was created about a year ago for predictions, but predictions have been going on on the 70's and 80's threads for years, so that is where some people like to post. Not sure that is going to change...

My prediction for next week's 80's rebroadcast: August 30, 1986. Did Premiere air it already?
Though I have the original broadcast of that episode in my collection. It was a really cool broadcast, and we find out where the "Q" in Stacey Q comes from.

I am thinking we get '81 and '86 in the next two weeks, in no particular order (though as I said, I would really lean toward '81, but that's my own hunch). Sounds like everyone else is thinking that too.

I know I'm on record for predicting 1981 for L-Day weekend, but quite honestly, I could go without 1981 forever and be perfectly happy. How could it not be? The country was still reeling from being sent into the Second Dark Ages under Ronnie Raygun. Not to get too political, of course. It's got to be the worst year for music in the 80s. IMO, the only pre-1985 year that is any good in the 80s is 1983.
Now, 1986, on the other hand - there's a fabulous year for 80s music. And again, IMO, the best the 80s had to offer.

1981 was a GREAT year for music and a great start of 8 years of the best this country had to offer in anything...again not getting political at all.

Wow...so many new threads that this one got bumped to page 2. Lots of discussion about DAR.fm and who is playing which 70's show. So...I mentioned last week that I am thinking '81 and '86 for these next two weeks. Now we know this week will be '81, so it's gotta be '86 next week, right? As for the 70's series, I am thinking we get a late 70's show next week. Three years are out for sure, and it is somewhat of a toss up between the other two "late 70s" years. Changing my SXM guess since they are playing '77 this week--we'll go with an early 70s show instead. For the weekend of Sept. 8th:
80s - 9/6/86 70s - 9/10/77 SXM - 9/9/72

1981 was a GREAT year for music and a great start of 8 years of the best this country had to offer in anything...again not getting political at all. Nice...agree on both counts. And this is the time of year I really like 1981. From Jan-April and from Oct-Dec I'm not crazy about it, but from May-Sept, there are quite a few great and at least interesting songs.

We're both on the same page, wahoo. I'm greatly anticipating both shows next week, if indeed they are '77 and '86.
My problem with early '80s Top 40 radio, BTW, is that it's too sleepy - just as was early '70s Top 40 music - but unlike the early '70s, early '80s T40 music had ZERO in the way of socio-political content. We traded Edwin Starr, Simon & Garfunkel, the Grateful Dead, and CSNY for REO Speedwagon, Journey, Survivor, and the J. Geils Band. The most lopsided trade ever, prior to the recent one made between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Boston Red Sox.
Top 40 radio in the early '80s was the most bland and empty of any three-year era in my lifetime. By far.
That's why I despise it so much.
