I'm listening to your 1965 countdown right now, and there's a slight mistake in the show. You played Bobby Vinton's "Mr. Lonely", which was a #1 song in late 1964. Bobby's current hit that was on the chart in June of '65 was actually called "L-O-N-E-L-Y", which actually reached its peak this week at #22.

Oops. Either my source had it wrong or I assumed. Either way, next foray into 1965, ill make a correction. Thanks for pointing it out!

One source I use has some glaring errors, so either is a possibility.

I enjoyed a "scoped" listen of this countdown. Just sampling some of the songs whets my appetitie for the entire show. Great stuff...thank you for making this effort available to all. Not to be an instigator, but how many of the acts on this list are one-hit-wonders? It sure seemed like there were quite a few. Now to go back and listen again. A great effort!

How did you hear a scoped version? Someone else do that?
Quite a few were, I usually mention it on the show if they are. I remember saying it alot. Joe Jeffrey Group, Spiral Starecase, Mercy and Zager & Evans come to mind offhand (without cheating and looking at my script.)
A few notes on the countdown:
The Minotaur was one heck of a weird tune! (The first all moog top 40 hit) We shortened it from over 8 minutes to around 5. Couldn't find a 45 version, so we edited it ourselves.
The Guess Who medley is one of our longest medleys to date. We put every top 40 hit in there except No Time (actually forgot it when I edited it together), Shakin All Over (deliberate omission) and These Eyes (In the countdown).
I love hearing the early Andy Kim hits! Baby I Love You is in the countdown and its such a good song!
A few notes on Bonus Tracks:
The Doors song is one I haven't heard before. I never even knew it was a single (didn't make the top 40)
Yeah, we played all 6+ minutes of Fingertips. I figured, why not!
We edited down Memphis Underground by Herbie Mann. It killed me because its a really good song but time constraints and all... Anyhow, I used the method they used to edit Also Sprach Zarathustra. (Shorter solo parts)
Finally, as I mentioned on another show a friend and I do, I HATE IN THE YEAR 2525! I had to shorten a few songs to fit the show into 3 hours and I wanted to do that SO BADLY but couldn't because its too busy of a song! Unhappily, it'll be on the next countdown from 1969 we do in a few weeks.

ANYTME! We'll upload them every week!
NEXT WEEK! A special countdown: The top 10 hits from 3 years in the early 60's. 7-11-60, 7-10-61 & 7-9-62 Each hour of the show features a different year. Each hour will have Bonus songs from within the top 100 that week.
We have problems locating everything from the top 40 between 1960 and 1963, so we decided to honor these years in this fashion. Sometimes we'll do 60-62 and other times 61-63.

How did you hear a scoped version? Someone else do that? No, there wasn't anyone else. All I did was fast forward the media player's seek button after your introduction and a minute or so of the better songs. Except for "In The Year 2525" which I listened to 20x in its entirety. Awesome song!! ;D

UGH and a HALF! Well, enjoy listening to the show in its entirety. See if you can make it thru The Minotaur without forwarding it.
Also, did you download my #1's countdown? I was wondering about your thoughts on that show!

just heard the 6-22-68 (The Billboard chart that represents my birthweek) Great list. noticed you played the B-side of #11 but counterbalanced it with your extra a few songs later.

OH MY GOD! I didn't realize it! The Motown Box Set I have on my computer (Complete Motown Singles) had the song names switched. I did an AT40 and played a b-side in error!
The extra I played was the original of Here Comes The Judge by Pigmeat Markham. I'll have to do a correction the next time we do 1968. The next planned 1968 episode isn't until late August so watch out for that!
