Guess he was disappointed when the song could not get past #34. Probably because writer Tim Moore's version charted at the same time (#58) and split the airplay. Too bad, because I love both 'takes' on the song. Tim's is more 'raw', while Art's is more 'lush', both are great. Just a good song. I've got Moore's on LP and Garfunkel's on CD.

In the 12/13/80 show, Casey called Kenny Rogers' "Lady" a "beautiful ballad" not once but twice: during the recap segment at the beginning of the show and leading into its #1 status at the end.

In the 1973 year end show, Casey praised "Midnight Train to Georgia", called "Why Me" a refreshing reverse prayer, and called "Playground In My Mind" (which I can't stand) pretty.

Casey introed Barry Manilow's "Mandy" on February 15, 1975 by saying it had "good lyrics and a strong melody". And as if to further prove the point, he outroed it by reciting some of the lyrics.

Anyone notice Casey stopped his personal comments on songs by the late 70s? Guess he didn't like disco or 80s pop much? He probably became less familiar with the music, since with the increased efficiency in AT40 production he just had to read the scripts and didn't have to actually play the records or hear the full songs. And he didn't necessarily listen to current hit radio much either; in a 1977 series of Billboard interviews, for instance, he said he didn't listen to music radio that much, but rather mostly listened to news and talk when not at work. Still, he probably knew a lot of later hit songs from life in general, even if he didn't make a special effort to hear them. Though it may be that his opinion of contemporary hits declined at least somewhat over the years. Guy Aoki noted on a Facebook thread that in the mid-1980s, when Tina Turner was back on the charts, a drop-piece of her 1973 hit "Nutbush City Limits" was included and Casey said "That's better than anything in the countdown!"
