Casey seemed to like "Love Jones" by Brighter Side of Darkness, as he prefaced it with "Ahhhh...what a record this is!" in its debut week (January 6, 1973.) That's especially funny since that record is on a lot of "worst singles ever" lists. He also had nice things to say (on 2 different shows) about "Stay Awhile" by the Bells, which is easily on my all-time Hits From Hell list -- it has not one but 2 of the worst vocals on a Top Ten single in history, IMHO. What? You mean you don't like "...how he makes me quivahhhhhh....." My main memory of that song is that 12-turning-13-year-old me thought it pretty steamy stuff: "Wow! She 'drops her robe to the floor'? So she's standing there naked? Heh-heh, heh-heh..." Yeah, the vocals aren't great but they're nowhere near Biz Markie "Just a Friend" bad either!

Yes, but I'd argue that Mr. Markie is actually *aware* of the fact that he can't sing.

Casey said the more he hears this song the more he likes it. Talking about "Could it Be Magic" in the 8/9/75 show.

Casey liked Jim Croce, saying on 11/25/72 "He's a good writer, with a good sound" after playing "Operator". After Jim's untimely death a year later, Casey included a tribute to him in the show which lasted several minutes and included clips from several of his songs, something AT40 didn't often do in those early years.

Casey said on 12/5/70 that he liked the message of "He Ain't Heavy...He's My Brother", then a hit for Neil Diamond, and also a hit for the Hollies a year earlier.

Later in the show he said that "One Less Bell to Answer" was beautiful. Certainly agree with that and it also applies to who sang the song...Marilyn McCoo.

On 2/24/73, Casey introduced Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" with "Here's one of the greatest rhythm tracks of the year." He also praised the lyrics to Lobo's "Don't Expect Me To Be Your Friend" at both the beginning and end of the song.

In the 3/23/74 countdown, Casey spoke well of "Sunshine On My Shoulders" by John Denver and the made-for-TV movie "Sunshine" that included it. (He also praised the film once when introducing "My Sweet Lady", written by Denver and sung then by Cliff DeYoung, which was also in it.)
That's not the only occasion in that time when Casey expressed his opinion of movies as well as music. When Mike Oldfield's "Tubular Bells" charted, Casey mentioned "The Exorcist" and said "I don't want to see it!"

On 4/17/76, Casey teased a story about Henry Gross' "Shannon" and its meaning (i.e. memorializing Brian Wilson's pet dog) by calling it a "pretty ballad". (Of course we know what he later thought about playing it as a LDD after an uptempo song, but that's not a criticism of the song itself.)

Casey seemed to like "Vincent" by Don McLean. On 4/29/72, he teased it by speaking of its "beautiful lyric and melody", and directed listeners to go to the library and look up Van Gogh's "A Starry Night", because that would make it "even more beautiful for you".

6/2/73 Casey says "boy, that's another winner" after Gladys Knight & the Pips "Daddy Could Swear, I Declare." Later in the same show he comes right out and says "I like this song" in reference to Skylark's "Wildflower".

Casey seemed to like Kenny G's "Songbird". On 8/1/87, he outroed it by saying "Sweet as a 'Songbird'!"
