Maybe not applied to the entire song, but in his intro on the 1980 year-end countdown at #50 for Dan Fogelberg's "Longer", Casey says, "Featuring a lovely flugelhorn solo by Jerry Hey". (Which I agree.)

On the 11/30/74 show, he sounded very enthusiastic about "Cat's In The Cradle" by Harry Chapin. When it debuted on 11/2/74, Casey introed CITC with "Harry Chapin writes a great lyric." (Wonder what he thought of the Ugly Kid Joe version that was a hit in 1993?) In that same show, Casey called Reunion's "Life Is a Rock (But the Radio Rolled Me)" "one of the best novelties of the year", in a year that probably had more than its share of novelty hits.

mkarns, Harry died in '81, so there's no way he could've heard Ugly Kid Joe's '93 cover.

mkarns, Harry died in '81, so there's no way he could've heard Ugly Kid Joe's '93 cover. I know. By "he" I meant Casey, who probably still would have been impressed with the lyrics but maybe not the new presentation, if in fact he actually listened to it.

More about the instrumental work than the song, but Casey said that Prince played "some terrific lead guitar" on "I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man", in the 2/6/88 show.

Casey called Sammi Smith's version of the Kris Kristofferson composition "Help Me Make It Through the Night" a "beautiful ballad" on 3/6/71. That same week, he said of Gordon Lightfoot's "If You Could Read My Mind" that it would be added to the repertoire of many singers around the world, a high compliment (this was one of several times Casey spoke well of Lightfoot's song.)

On 3/16/74 he praised Harry Chapin's lyrics after playing "W.O.L.D." (which was at #40 and would get to #36 the next week before falling off the countdown).

On this week's 1976 show, Casey said Junk Food was one of his favorite of the year. Premiere played the 3/20/76 show this week with Larry Groce's "Junk Food Junkie", which Casey prefaced by saying he liked it, not the only show where he said that. Kind of ironic that Casey should like a song about pigging out on junk food when he himself became an advocate of healthy diets, including vegetarian/veganism. Maybe sometimes he could relate to the song, about trying to maintain a healthy eating regimen and falling off that wagon?

5/19/73 is notable for Casey mentioning that there are four debut songs, "and they're all good ones."
