Last year, it was also Top 40 only. The show started with #40, Take It Off by Ke$ha.

I am so upset with the number 1 this year on AT40 hit radio edition, there are at least 39 other songs better than that *** from Pitbull.

I havent heard the show yet. But there were about 4,543,987,298 songs played on radio in 1995 better than the song at #2 that year.

I don't really like it very much myself, due to how overplayed it was, but I wouldn't say I hate it. I'm not sure what song from 1995 that I hated the most. "Fantasy" by Mariah Carey would be one of them, though. Also, I think that "Only Wanna Be With You" by Hootie & The Blowfish got a little more airplay than was necessary, but I'd rather listen to it than "Fantasy" any day. Oh, and also "Breakfast At Tiffany's" by Deep Blue Something (though that got more airplay in 1996). Mainly due to the lyrics. Anyway, back to the topic. I myself not that concerned about the fact that AT40 is only doing a Top 40 countdown - namely, because I no longer listen to the show. I became fed up with it about this time last year, due partially to the slow chart, as well as the celebrity gossip. But I do understand why people would be disappointed, since it had been a tradition for AT40 to do a full Top 100 year-end countdown. (BTW, AT40: The 80s is doing a full year-ender over the next two weeks, so if your listening area has a station that runs the show, be sure to tune in.)

See, I liked all the other songs you named actually. But here's the deal with the song at #2 for 1995. Has there ever been a song, a show, a movie, a celebrity, etc that you were neither here nor there about but honestly you didn't like it/them slightly more than you did? You didn't know why you felt that way, you just did. Then, it gets rammed down your throat over and over, or something happens with them that makes you absolutely detest it? That was this song for me. I have stated many times I think THE song of the year was "Kiss from a Rose" but it wasn't. I understand that. But to come back from a commercial break after hearing Seal at #3 only to hear that harmonica play was stack blowing. I don't care if it spent 30 weeks on the chart, top 10, or whatever it was. The fact that it was #2 made me detest that song. And no, 16 years, marriage, a son, and nearly a completed bachelors degree later I will NOT let it go.

This weekend AT40 is about the top 40 of the year again, but it has another intro, this one has the jingle " and the battle...".

What I liked about "Run-Around" being at #2 for the year was the novelty of a song registering higher on the year-end chart than it peaked on the weekly charts (I think it only got as high as #5, right?) Plus, at that point, every position on some year-end chart or other had a song that didn't hit #1 at every single position (i.e. "Run-Around" was the #2 song for the year, "Hold On" by Wilson Phillips finished at #3 in 1990 even though it never hit #1 on the weekly charts, the non-#1 "One Headlight" by the Wallflowers got #4 for 1997, and so on) - every single position but #1, that is - and even that was eventually taken care of on more than one occasion, starting with "Everything You Want" by Vertical Horizon in 2000. But yeah, I got tired of hearing "Run-Around" every time I turned on the radio. And, yes, its longevity was what helped it get such a high position on the year-ender, such is the case with the other songs I mentioned. The thing I hated about "Breakfast At Tiffany's", besides its gross overplay, was the lyrics - can you really rebuild a dying relationship on the slight appreciation for a movie? That's like building a house on a foundation of sand.

I guess I should say I do like the end of "Run Around." Like the part where the song has completely faded out, awesome.
