Where's Casey Kasem to light up the candles and slice up the cake?

I would be d**n happy if Casey were to host AT40 on the July 4th weekend to mark the 40th anniversary. For the special, have Casey do AT40 "the classic way". Too bad, this will never happen.

Not having Casey Kasem present is exactly like having the "cake without the icing"!!!!

At least there should , and I think will, be an on-air acknowledgement of the show's origins and anniversary, with tribute to Casey and others who made it happen. That would be especially useful now, since it's been over six years since Casey left AT40 and many of the show's younger listeners have no memory of anyone other than Seacrest hosting it regularly. We've talked a lot on here about the contrasts between the classic and current formats, but the contrast seemed especially acute to me a week or two ago when Ryan, who has a voiceover role in the new Shrek film, turned about half the countdown into basically an extended ad for it between the songs. By contrast, Casey did a lot of outside voiceover and acting work but rarely used AT40 to promote it.

American Top 40 with Ryan Seacrest will feature the AT40 - the 40th anniversary special (or a kind of that) for the July 4th weekend, according to their brief announcement during this weekend's show.

I heard Ryan announce it at the end of today's broadcast. I wonder if they will do a special countdown show that weekend. Hopefully they will play some old tunes so the younger folks will know what real music used to sound like.

Supposedly, they will play AT40 jingles from the past. That's all I know.

It's a regular countdown, but does feature some classic clips of Casey. All I know...

When does AT40 air in Philadelphia? I'm hoping to check this out this weekend.

You can view a listing of stations carrying AT40 on the revamped AT40 site: www.at40.com/. Coming back to the original poster, there's a nice slide show of AT40's 40th anniversary on the AT40 site, which includes not only Ryan and the cake, but also a number of photos of Casey and even Shadoe Stevens.
