In the 2000 show, before “Blue” was played, Rick reviewed some songs featuring the word blue. Surprisingly he didn’t mention a few that were popular songs (some I can think of right away): “Electric Blue”- Icehouse, “Out of the Blue”-Debbie Gibson, “Blue Eyes”-Elton John, “Baby Never Looked So Good In Blue”-Expose, “Midnight Blue”-Lou Gramm

I always found 1/14/89 amusing in that there's a sketch of Rick placing a call to President Reagan, on what would be the last weekend in Washington for both. The following week they were replaced by George Bush in the White House and Casey's Top 40 on then-CHR affiliate WAVA (Rick would return to local airwaves in the later 1990s/early 2000s.)

Now on the app: January 14, 1989 January 21, 1995 January 14, 2006 If that looks odd, it's because all three are captioned as January 21 - which means yes, 1995 is the only one for which that's correct. For 2006, that...doesn't make a HUGE difference this time since neither the 14th nor the 21st had yet been done. Meanwhile, for 1995, Rick played a rap-less edit of "Get Ready For This" - not to be confused with the instrumental-only version, as this retained the female singer.

After WAVA switched to CT40, Rick Moved over to Z-104 in Frederick MD (103.9 a rimshot for Wash DC). What I never understood was how he ended up on WAVA? Rick premiered in DC on WASH-FM (Their ill fated attempt to CHR in 1984 b4 going back to being the WASH FM we know). Rick then popped up on Q-107 in 1985. But how did he jump ship to WAVA in 1986? Still dont know how WAVA was able to get Rick away from Q107. I understand WHY WAVA wanted Rick, cuz at the time Countdown America's John Leader had left the show an WAVA did NOT want to continue Countdown America w/ host Dick Clark. And AT40 was already on Q107. John Leader had started Countdown USA though, so they could of picked that up instead.
Rick stayed on Z104 till their initial demise in 1995, however later in 1995 Rick was back in DC on Star 99.5 (now known as WIHT), albeit the HotAC Version. That format only lasted a year an Rick didnt return till Z104's return in 1996, although it took a year for them to pick up Rick, late 1997. Hated the fact though that they buried the show at 5-9am on Saturday. Rick jumped ship again when WIHT came to fruition in 2001, where he stayed till the contract ran out in late 2004.
And now Rick Dee's is back in the "Dc area". He can be heard Sunday nights on B-101.5, which is technically another rim shot station, that also serves some of the Richmond VA area. Oh yeah WINC-FM 92.5 did air Ricks 90's series show for about a year back in 2014 (another rim shot station).

I wonder how Q107 managed to make room for Rick, if rather briefly, when they were also carrying Casey. Q107 played AT40 with Casey and then Shadoe from 1983 to August 1991 IIRC (the last year after they had switched to the Hot AC "Mix 107")
In 2004 he was on WIHT along with Ryan Seacrest's AT40, which joined that station as soon as Ryan became host and remains there 19 years later. (Casey's AC shows were heard locally on other stations, but his contract as I understand it prevented him from being heard on more than two stations in the same market, so AT40 in the late 1990s/2000s wasn't played in the immediate area as long as he hosted it.)

It really made it feel like he did some actual research into past charts and had a strong knowledge of music. You'd never hear anything like that on his show now, only celebrity gossip.

Q-107 aired rick on Sunday nights 7-11pm. Although it never seemed like they added enough local commercials. the show almost always ended early, 5-10 mins before 11pm.

Yeah what mkarns said. Becuz those early shows used cash box he can't run them and or he doesn't own any show from that time period. I've never seen a collector with any 83 show. And let's be honest we should all know by now Rick doesn't have every one of his shows. And some of the 1s he does, have missing or poor quality sections. I know there's more than 1 show he plays where he substitutes 1 section with a section from another. As for Xmas shows, all the 1s I have are 1 hour shows. Course admittedly I only have 2000 an 2001 (on original show cd) but I do remember recording the 97 show off air when it aired back in 97 an that too was only a 1 hour show.......so that might b why u don't hear any of the other years. Perhaps? I don't know what's in what you have content-wise, but at only 1 hour each, it sounds like you have mini-shows compared to what's been on the app or on retro Dees radio the past few years - and those have all been 4-hour structured shows. (Or, just 1 disc out of 4.) In fact, 2001 is what was on the app last year. The other ones to have aired in any capacity so far are 1998, 2002, and now 2003. To follow up on this, The 2 shows I actually have are from 1999 an 2000. An they are only 1 cd an on the CD just says Christmas special, doesnt mention hour 1 or anything such. Now the Q sheets do say hour 1, but there is only 1 sheet an 1 hour. The flip side of the sheet is blank. Here's a link to the Q sheets I scanned for both years: arkham.xzibition.com/~cat/rick-1.pdfarkham.xzibition.com/~cat/rick-2.pdfNow here's a letter I found sent to affiliates ABOUT the 1 hour x-mas show coming up. It would seem these shows were meant to be aired as a 1 hour special on X-mas day OR as a prelude to that weeks survey (aka year end countdown) an not to take the place of the weekly show slot. That might explain why the 1997 X-mas show I heard on Z104 was only 1 hour but was actually played during Z104's regular weekly show timeslot. It also mentions the Millennium countdown. arkham.xzibition.com/~cat/rick-3.pdfI also have a letter to the affiliates near the end of 1998 that mentions the X-mas show for that year and mentions it will be a full 4 hour show. So clearly some of the X-mas specials were 1 hour, an some were 4.

That is really weird that he alternated between 4-hour specials and 1-hour specials over the years. I guess it's understandable for 1999 with there being the decade-end countdown instead of a year-end countdown that year, plus also those would be the last shows he did for ABC. But, 2000? This leaves 1996 and 2003 completely unaccounted for (the first and last ones), but given this information it wouldn't be surprising if those were only 1-hour shows too. It would explain 97 only being 1-hour if 98 was the first 4-hour. I also notice there's a lot of overlap from 1999 to 2000 (a lot less surprising). And I was right, 1999 Christmas is the first show he played "This Gift" on.
