KZOY is playing 11/12/88 tonight. The sure shot is "Smooth Criminal" by Michael Jackson. This is its 7th airing and the last one was 11/23/2019. This is probably the closest they'll get to playing a 1989 show.

The other 2 shows on radio this weekend will probably be: 11/23/96 11/27/2004 I believe this 1996 show is the HAC version.

Just listened to the 1989 show and it was funny hearing Eagle Eye Cherry get a shout out 10 years before he even had a hit.

Apps updated: 80s: Jul 8, 1989 90s: Jul 5, 1997 D2k: Jul 10, 2004 89 and 97 were last on Sirius xm back in 2008, so it's new on the app this year. 2004 also new too What a whiff on the 1989 "Sure Shot." "Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming" by Robert Palmer only got to #50 on Cash Box and #60 on Billboard, and did not hit Radio and Records. Yes it was, too good to be true.

"Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming" was a cover of a Jermaine Jackson song that in 1984 charted in Radio & Records, where it hit #6, but not elsewhere as it wasn't a commercial single. (It was also popular in dance clubs, as it hit #1 on the Billboard dance chart, and later was the B-side of Jermaine's hit "Do What You Do".)

Overall, it's a great 80's song that radio has ignored over the years. It has to be the least popular Top-6 song of the decade (Jermaine) from a charts perspective, only hitting R&R. Robert Palmer's cover version has to be one of the least popular Top-50 song of the decade (50 CB/60 BB.)

Then kani was correct and it was July 8 - I remember listening to that one through his site.

I don't think 7/8 is "midway". I think I have this show in my collection.

Enjoyed the 1997 show this week... Lots of great summer songs from that year. And ironically had many songs that are perfect to play amid the times we are living in 2020.. Like “Everyday Is A Winding Road”- Sheryl Crow and “Virtual Insanity”- Jamiroquai. Even Rick Dees goes on a news report about people dying in their hospital beds every week because of someone working there (was supposed to be funny but not very funny nowadays to talk about). Also, with all the craziness with protests, etc. going on nowadays, there was another segment that didn’t age very well... Rick was on phone with Bernie Shelley and they were talking about what two siblings looked like nowadays who were raised by different nationalities. Shelley says identical, you seen one you’ve seen them all... Obviously not very funny nowadays and really shouldn’t have been back then either.

Also regarding segments that didn't age well, in this week's 1989 show he says it would be nice to live in Caracas, Venezuela, after noting it had the lowest gas prices on earth. And there was a Batman parody segment called "Bushman" (as in George H.W.), a superhero fighting crime and wrongdoing from the White House. That doesn't hold up so well when the current WH is enabling and encouraging it.

One of the songs in the challenge in the 1997 show is "Missing". But I couldn't figure out the other. Anyone?

Every so often, even that far back, Rick would pick a sure shot that would make my teenage self say, "Come on! That won't be a hit!" Don't get me started on his sureshots in the present-day era.
