The VJs usually go with the chart closest to the date of the Countdown's first airing. In regards to next week's 1983 Countdown, they should be going with the February 12 chart. If the February 19 chart were covered instead, it'll be merely out of sympathy for somebody that died, because one of the artists behind the #1 song for that week (James Ingram) passed away a couple of weeks back. On the February 12 chart, that same song will be at the #2 position. I don't see the VJs covering a February 19 chart on a Countdown show that will air on February 15.

With 1983 being this week, that leaves 84, 86, and 88 being the only years they hadn't covered yet this year. I predict 1986 for next week since it hasn't been featured since the first week of December last year.

And next week it'll be all about 1988! Glad they skipped over 1986 and 1984. We get 40 new tunes since 10/31/87. So Emotional and Is This Love came and went but we still get MJ, INXS and Harrison number ones on the 2/20/88 chart.

If you mute Kenny and Sheena, the second hour of this 2/12/83 show is as good as any hour of any VJ Big 40 ever gets.

Personally, when I listen to the Big 40 Countdowns, I would just mute the songs that have already been played to much on the SXM-80s' regular programming (meaning outside of the countdown). In the case of this week, it's "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me", "Rock the Casbah", and "Africa".

And next week it'll be all about 1988! I really wish they'd waited one more week. The 2/20/88 chart was featured three years in a row from 2014-16. The next two weeks have never been featured.

No such luck. SXM is advertising tonight's countdown as "Taylor Dayne, Prince and More" so get ready for the much repeated 2/20/88.

At least unlike the last time it aired, Martha won't be there and the show opening has been changed. I'm thinking 1986 will be next week and then 1984, both new charts.

Hopefully it isn't 1986 because it will match the real thing from Premiere. Problem is if they hold off 1986 until the following week (March 8), it would be a repeat from last year, so I think that even if they duplicate what Premiere offers, it should be a new show. I understand you don't like charts that duplicate what the 80s AT40 show is but they have to happen from time to time.

Yep, 1986 is next week. At least it's a new chart, and you can always hear Casey knock them out the park later in the weekend.

How is the advertisement going to have their names if the singles they had on the countdown are fading into the sunset (read: exiting the Top-40 the following week)? If anything, it should have red "Pet Shop Boys, George Michael, and more". Personally, I'll be glad when a January 1988 chart gets covered next year.

The advertisement is just as lazy as the rest of the show. They randomly choose two artists between #32 and #39 and they're done. Could be new, could be falling, could be legendary (Prince) or could be forgotten (Prism.)

Last week they just had "This week...1983!" as its advertisement, though if they did do it in the usual style, it would be have been something outlandish like "Pia Zadora, Don Henley, and more".
