Alan calls the band Firefall, Fireball! What a putz! The production is awful. They tell the same stories about each artist, every single time. Like listening to my Grandpa repeat himself

No need to listen to Copycat Casey this week; likely same chart as Premiere. And another reason why you shouldn't listen to Casey lite either - folks at the XMFan Forums are getting frustrated at the VJs and the PD on the 80s channel for the lack of variety. Yeah, I think songs from 1980/1981 (pre-MTV) and 1988/1989 should be in the regular playlist. Actually it's probably a reason in favor of listening to this countdown: to hear songs that you rarely if ever hear in their regular rotation or on most oldies/classic hits stations.

WHY ARE YOU STILL ON THIS THREAD WHEN YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE SATELLITE RADIO!!!!!

And second, do you have to write all caps when I'm still on this thread? Give me a break...

Wait a minute! You're telling people not to listen to this countdown, yet you're going to listen to it anyway. Hypocrite! Geesh, Only listened long enough to find out the year of the next show. In that case, I apologize to you then. I was just reminded about when you told us about a SiriusXM preview weekend or something like that & then you mentioned how the programming was really bad. If you were just listening to this to know what year next week's countdown is from, I'm fine with that. Once again, I am sorry.

It's just that you are telling people not to listen to this show, yet you admitted here that you don't have SiriusXM. The only reason I don't usually post on this thread is that I don't wanna pay an arm & an leg for satellite radio. Unfortunately, you haven't gotten the hint yet.

This week's show was April 9, 1983. Next week will probably be April 16, 1988--which won't duplicate any Casey countdown as AT40 was guest hosted that week.

That's an awful lot of 1985, more than that is really representative. They play a lot of 1982 and 1983; last week's 1983 B40 show had as many songs in the regular rotation as any. Generally I think they focus on the time from about mid-1982 to mid-1987; the first and last quarters of the decade get short shrift.

Last week on the Big 40...
#21: Pet Shop Boys -- Always On My Mind
This week on the Big 40...
#21: Willie Nelson -- Always On My Mind
What are the odds?

There are some decent channels on XM but those do not include the 70s/80s channels. I don't know what licensing rights cost for the 80s AT40s, but I'd rather pay for that than the 4 clowns. And now that the 70s doesn't even give the year of AT40 in advance anymore, they can get rid of Tragic Matt & company too as far as I am concerned. I noticed the Big 40 is using Billboard's chart, do you think they are paying rights fees? If so, why waste money and just go with Premiere's AT40 the 80s?

They don't have pay any fees because it's just a list. They used to use the Cashbox charts but switched awhile back. Prior to the merge they had a 1970's countdown hosted by Dave Heffel who is on the 60's channel now. For the 80's channel they did the MTV VJ countdown. Basically they compromised and put Casey on the 70's and kept the MTV countdown for the 80's.

Next week's Copycat Casey...1980! Should get to hear "Cars" by Gary Numan, which receives little recurrent airplay but was replayed to death during a week in early May 1980 while I was vacationing in Florida.
