I noticed in this week's show there are several mentions of the present, like the upcoming Top Gun sequel, Lionel Richie's American Idol judge stint, and Queen's Gambit.

Great, so not only are three years now skipped over, with 83 joining 82 and 89, but we may get a repeat of last year. Might as well have 5/23/81 and 5/26/84 next.
On the bright side, if 1982 is indeed the week after, it will at least be new, but with the way they've been pushing certain years up (this week being one of them, but at least it turned out well for us), I don't know yet anymore.

Should be 5-16-87, which is closest to 5-13-22. This is the logical choice, but last month they did 4-11-81 on 4-15-22 when 4-18-81 was closer in date.

I can see them going with the 9th for that reason alone. We'll just have to wait but it's still strange that they're doing 1987 again so soon. Also it looks like Pop2K dropped their R. Kelly ban. This has been happening for a few weeks but I don't think it has been brought up on here before. The 90s is still upholding theirs.

So, in one shot they manage to drastically reduce the chances of getting August 1987 or July 1989. I wonder what they have against those months (as well as January 1988). They seem to go to great lengths to avoid them time and time again.

Maybe 1987 is a false start like 1980 was 2 weeks ago? Maybe but we might have to wait until the last couple of airings to see if they made a mistake.

If nothing else, we finally seem to be moving away from getting the same years from the VJs and Premiere right on top of each other. We could have easily gotten 1985 from Premiere next week but we're not.

I mean I'm fine with them deviating from it every now and then but sometimes they go with some headscratchers.

I mean I'm fine with them deviating from it every now and then but sometimes they go with some headscratchers. I like the occasional deviation also, so long as it prevents recent repeats as opposed to causing them. When the next few weeks are all set up for new charts and they change things around to give us repeats, that's aggravating.

There is a chance they could do 5/9 though, which will be new.

I am thinking the following should occur: 82, 89 then 83. Unlikely 82 and 83 would be together. I am thinking that's why they changed 80 right after 81 was played. That also assumes there is no Memorial Day Special.

If we get 82 and 89 back-to-back after this, that'll be two more new shows, but with the way they've been weaseling around that, I have my doubts.

Ugh they are repeating last year. The only upside is that there's not as many carryovers from 3/28 as there would have been.

To be specific it's May 16, 1987, which I identified when "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" came on, as it entered the entire Hot 100 at #38 that week.
I don't particularly mind a repeat of last year (the same show three or four years in a row gets to be too much) so long as the speaking parts are brought up to date, but I had expected May 9, 1987 as they more often go backwards than forward from this weekend's dates.
