As 1984 is the only year left, and every year that I can remember they do the ten different years in the fist ten weeks of the year. If they do start with the first year played in January, it would be 1987 on 3-18-22. 1985 and 1983 would be due after that, but they could be reversed. Actually, more often than not, they haven't lived up to "the ten different years first": 2013 had 1982 played twice before the first 1988. Technically, 2014 began with 1986 for the first two weeks - but that classifies the first week as 1986, as that used the frozen chart from 12/28/85. 2015 had 1989 played twice before the first 1983. So did 2016 - that year, 1984 wasn't played until after, either. 2018 had 1986 played twice before the first 1988. 2020 had 1981 played twice before the first 1982. That leaves only 2017, 2019, and last year as having met that goal to date. So in turn, I would dispel this as being a myth that it'd be something they're likely to do each year - as we've discovered for this year now, too. Thanks for the clarification. I really thought it would be 1984, and that would have been a 4/5 years or 80% for 10 weeks without a repeat, but as we know predictions for the VJ Countdown can be futile!

In any case, talk about hitting the target: 1985 was quite literally the only year out of all ten that could have given us a new chart if picked. As for 1984, all they have to do now is wait two weeks - and then they'd hit March 24, which would not only be Breakfast Club Day (or so I recall) but would also be new. In between 85 and 84, the best bet would be for 1987. I had to look Breakfast Club Day up, but March 24, 1984 is the detention day depicted in the film. Though next week's March 1985 show will be from when it was actually in the cinemas. (No songs from it, though; "Don't You (Forget About Me)" was still two weeks away from the top 40).

It's weird that they skipped 84 and 87 again, but 3/19 hasn't been done since 2015. Much rather prefer this over 3/5. Still they could have gone with another new 1987 chart.

It's weird that they skipped 84 and 87 again, but 3/19 hasn't been done since 2015. Much rather prefer this over 3/5. Still they could have gone with another new 1987 chart. Based on apparently recent trends... apparently not. What is problematic, though, is that this puts 3/28/87 in the crosshairs, which of course was done in both 2019 and 2020. Not unless they throw a curveball and do 3/21 the week after anyway. (Two weeks from yesterday will be dated March 25, close enough to still make a "curveball" possible, if not too likely.) And with 1983 next, it makes 3/24/84 unlikely - but we'll see. With that off the table, they'd be better holding off till April (only 4/21 has ever been done, and that was in 2020).

At the rate they're going, 1986 might not be completely out the realm of possibility either for the week after next. Also hopefully them waiting this long before doing 1984 means we won't get 12/22 again at the end of the year.

At the rate they're going, 1986 might not be completely out the realm of possibility either for the week after next. Not the poorest choice (3/29 would make back-to-back 2015 picks, while 3/22 last aired in 2013), but would be a bit of a disappointment in that the middle of April has two as-yet-unplayed weeks there.

Unless they decide to go with 3/21, looks like we'll have a repeat of 2020 on our hands.
With their being five Fridays in April, I'll try and predict what will be played:
4/1: 3/31/84 (I think this was last done in 2018, but I doubt they would wait any longer to do 1984) 4/8: 4/5/86 (I don't remember when this was last done but if I remember correctly, 1986 would have the longest gap at this point) 4/15: 4/18/81 (This would be a good target considering it would be a new chart) 4/22: 4/23/88 (With the way things have been going lately, I can see 86 and 88 switching places though, but even with it being a repeat, April of that year hasn't been done a whole lot lately) 4/29: 5/1/82 (another new chart)

3/28/87 was played in both 2019 and 2020, so bad choice indeed. In 2020, they for some reason only waited five weeks to play 1987 again while in 2019 they waited the standard ten weeks. I'd like to say this puts August 1987 right in the crosshairs, but they always seem to find a way to avoid that month.
So, I'm not too excited about next weekend. Between this and Premier's 2018 repeat there's nothing great on the schedule. (Oh, the music will be good in both cases, just not the chart selection.)

On the app, they have a countdown of the top 40 women of the '80s for Women's History Month. Why this is just on the app and won't be aired I don't know, but it's interesting nonetheless.
40. Juice Newton - Queen of Hearts 39. Dionne Warwick - Heartbreaker 38. Diana Ross - I'm Coming Out 37. Bette Midler - Wind Beneath My Wings 36. Aretha Franklin - Who's Zoomin' Who 35. Atlantic Starr - Secret Lovers (guess they're including groups with women singers even if there are male ones too) 34. Tiffany - I Think We're Alone Now 33. Donna Summer - She Works Hard For The Money 32. Berlin - Take My Breath Away 31. Sheila E. - The Glamorous Life 30. Olivia Newton-John - Physical 29. Laura Branigan - Gloria 28. Taylor Dayne - Tell It To My Heart 27. Starship - We Built This City 26. Debbie Gibson - Only In My Dreams 25. Paula Abdul - Straight Up 24. Expose - Point Of No Return 23. Jody Watley - Looking For A New Love 22. Gloria Estefan & the Miami Sound Machine - Conga 21. Roxette - The Look (Idk why they didn't go with Listen To Your Heart or something because Per sung lead on The Look) 20. The Pointer Sisters - Automatic 19. Sheena Easton - Strut 18. Janet Jackson - What Have You Done For Me Lately 17. Tina Turner - What's Love Got To Do With It 16. Bananarama - Cruel Summer 15. Irene Cara - Flashdance...What A Feeling 14. Next week's Copycat Casey...1984 Oh wonderful...the same year, though likely not the same week, as the real Casey. (Probably 3/31/84 here).

It should be 3/31 because even if it will be April by then, it would be a pretty big stretch to do the week after.

Gee...we seemed to be all set to get 3/21/87 last week, and then it had to go and turn out that that's what Premiere was doing. That has, accordingly, screwed the proverbial pooch last week, this week, and now next week as well. Assuming they don't throw a real curve and do 4/7...welcome the newest member of the Four Times Played Club! Duplicating Premiere exactly would actually be the better option, because Big 40 hasn't yet done that week at all. At least two of the three years we won't have heard from in the longest (1986 and 1988, though 86 would have to be 4/12) give "new" options for the week after. So, of course, watch us get the one that doesn't (1981).
