I hope 1982 follows 1989, since it'll be about time for it: 8/21/82 comes ten weeks after 6/12, which is the last 1982 show they played.
Plus Premiere, which hasn't done a 1982 A since the beginning of May, isn't likely to play 8/21/82 since it was aired just two years ago but might do 8/28, and since the 1982 calendar is identical to 2021's there isn't likely to be the "same show, different weeks" thing we're seeing with 8/4/84 this week or 7/16/83 last month, when we get a VJ countdown from that date a week after hearing the same chart from Casey.

2020: 10/13 comes back for #4, followed by 12/22 for #3. This one was inexcusable, since it had been well over three months since the previous 1984 airing.

What made that even more aggravating was the fact that they could have gone with 9/15 or 9/22 last year because of the 10-week gap but of course that didn't happen.

Yes, and talk about superstars we miss from 1984 countdowns: Prince, Madonna, Springsteen, and Huey Lewis and the News. My predictions for the next several weeks, and I am guessing no Labor Day Special in this guesstimate: 8-20, 1982, 8-27, 1988, 9-3, 1985, 9-10, 1980, 9-17, 1986.

That actually wouldn't be the worst slate in the world, with a couple of IFs to help prop it up:
If 1985 were 9/7, that'd be a new chart. (If it's 8/31, then it immediately goes bad, as that'd be a third-time play and was last done just two years ago.) If 1980 were 9/13, that wouldn't be new, but it's been a while for that one - not since 2013. (Whereas 9/6 would be the third time in the past four years.) If 1986 were 9/13, that'd be a new chart. If it's 9/20, that wouldn't be new, but there are worse choices for that week than something last done in 2016.

What made that even more aggravating was the fact that they could have gone with 9/15 or 9/22 last year because of the 10-week gap but of course that didn't happen. This is exactly what I'm hoping doesn't happen with 1988 in the next few weeks. With so many available "new" charts during the late summer time frame, it would be a crime for them to hold off until the next available repeat, as they did in the above example.

With that, hopefully that means 1988 is next. I kind of wished they went with that year but it's still a win-win, chart wise.

It was doubtful that they would do 1988 after 1989.

It was doubtful that they would do 1988 after 1989. Yeah I suppose but I think 90s on 9 did that recently by playing 1995 and 1996 in back-to-back weeks, though obviously the way they select years appears to be different. By the way, Alan is absent this week because he's in the middle of moving, as mentioned on this weekend's countdown.

Wow not too often that there are only two to do the show, but then again most show hosts are solo.

In the 1989 show, there are two songs that have women doing backup vocals who are uncredited. The songs are “Girl I’m Gonna Miss You” by Milli Vanilli and “Hey Baby” by Henry Lee Summer. Does anyone know the names of the females who did the backup vocals in these songs? Possibly the toughest question ever asked on here..lol

Looking ahead, if they wait ten weeks for the next 1989 show we hit a wall with good options. It would be better if it pops up in nine weeks.
Meanwhile, ten weeks down the road for 1982 would give us the 10/30 chart, which last aired in 2012. No complaints from me if that happens.
It also occurred to me that so long as 1988 airs in the following two weeks and the pattern continues, we could get a later January 1988 show next year. I'm hoping for 1988 and 1985 to be the next two years, in that order, as late August 1985 has been done to death.
Over on the 90s countdown, we get a four-time repeat from 1999 this week. Two charts from August 1999 have been played a combined total of seven times. The other two, not at all. The first three from September? Not at all. Whatever.
