Apparently the show last night was a guest hosted version so they decided no need to play it or tell anyone they weren't. So we already get that disrespect. However, thats not the worst..... Accoding to this link, which is to the discussion on xmfan.com: www.xmfan.com/viewtopic.php?t=67849Someone called and actually got to someone (I tried to call last night and all I got was a recording from Bruce Kelly of all people) and was told the above, and that the show would only be aired on Sunday night!!!!!! This smiley doesn't do how I feel justice right now. I resubbed last year because Kelly said the show would be back soon. I kept it all this time because I hoped it would and didn't want the hassle of re-upping AGAIN whenb it came back. Now, I am flat out pissed. They are screwing the show and all of us who subbed to XM because of it over again and the d**n thing has only been back on XM for less than a week! They claim people are complaining about it, but every message board I have seen regarding it has been highly positive about the show, unlike the last time they ran it. If two times a week is too much for the XM subculture (and yes, I do refer to them as that being how they think nothing from AM/FM should ever be allowed on satellite radio period) to bare that they can't listen to the other 200 channels for a few hours then whatever. That small few seems to control the whole company, and as I started on the thread I posted above I am really close to just cancelling and being done with it! If you have XM and this bugs you even half as much as it bugs me (and probably makes Shannon bang his head on his desk) email eighties@xmradio.com and let them know how you feel. These idiots are pushing me over the edge!

Does anyone know if the 70;s channel will still keep their word and carry AT40 on saturdays at noon and wednesdays at 10 eastern? If not I will cancel my XM subscription.

It seems the XM subculture just wants music; like an iPod on shuffle, with no DJ's and no personality whatsoever; kind of like Music Choice.

I just checked XM's homepage and they are still sdvertising AT40. When you click on the ad, it says it will be heard sundays at10AM and thursdays at 10Pm on 80's, and saturdays at noon and wednesdays at 10PM on 70's. This has changed since yesterday because they were still showing the ad for last weekend's marathon.

Good question spt. The ad says sunday at 10AM eastern. Sounds to me like whoever is in charge at the 80's channel doesn't want it on at all. After reading the message boards, the majority of the comments on AT40 were positive.

Good afternoon all! I'm just now getting around to reading the posts on xm411.com, xmfan.com and on here regarding this week's AT40 show on XM's 80s on 8, or lack thereof.
1. If they have already made changes to the schedule on the 80's channel and are going to air the show just once per week, that is fine but defintely creates an integrity and character issue. The supposed reason, as I have read all about is 'due to negative comments.' I expect this board to be heavily biased, obviously, in support of the program. However, the last time around XM411 and XMfan was LOADED with negative comments about the program. Reading this time over the past week (gees, we're not even a week removed from the initial marathon) the response has been overwhelmingly positive. I might have read 1 or 2 negative comments with those being attributed to XM's screwups on sequencing of the shows. Where's all of this 'negativitiy' coming from unless they are just flat out lying?
I have to say, I have nothing but praise for 70's on 7 program director John Clay. Everything he has said would happen has happened when and how he said it would happen. I wish we could say the same for the 80s.
2. Another reason offered for no 80s show this week was because it was a guest host. In this case, I guess I am biased LOL but Charlie Van Dyke, Mark Elliott, Bob Eubanks and so many other of the guest hosts were a nice change of pace. From my perspective, I've been asked to archive the entire collection, guest hosts, specials and all.
I have an email in to John Clay and another in to the 80's program director. Hopefully, one or the two of them can provide some clarity and direction. It is apparent that not only have fans from this board invested in subscriptions and equipment to listen to XM specifically for AT40, but it's obvious that a lot of the 'general public' (based on xmfan and xm411) have done the same.
Personally, it would be nice to have a countdowns channel. Gees, there's anough technology out there. Maybe we should just start our own subscriber based website for 24/7 AT40 broadcasts LOL!
As I encouraged you to do during the marathon and on its heels, write the respective program directors (seventies@xmradio.com and eighties@xmradio.com) and let them know what you think. Be polite and try to avoid wailing and gnashing of teeth though I know many of you are experiencing those emotions.
You are welcome to post this message to the 411 and fan sites or as inclusion to writing the PDs. However, for cotent and clarity, I would only ask that you include the ENTIRE message and not pick and choose.
My opinion for now, Shannon

Ok, so know I youre in jest there.... but, realistically, can we do that??? Or rather... COULD we do that? Id definately be in for a subscription. And maybe even expand it to a "Countdowns" site and try to lease some of the other 70s and 80s countdown shows.
I know you were kidding, but thats an overwhelmingly GREAT idea.

I think we can throw the 'guest host' theory out of the window. Checking XM's website, they were supposed to air March 5, 1983?? There was NO guest host that week according to my database.

I suggested years ago that XM radio should start a channel exclusively for Countdown shows as not to alienate the decades channel hardcore listeners.
If (they) XM can create their own vintage or classic channel especially for TV personality & music or films then, why can't this be done? Premiere is also a shareholder of XM so this would not a be problem with the vintage or past shows or even their newer shows.
I would hope to see a "Real Countdown Channel". Wherein you could hear Casey Kasem, Rick Dees, Ryan Seacrest, Shadoe Stevens, Lara Scott (The World Chart Show) and various countdown shows from the past and now all together 24/7! Now that's worth my 12.99 subscription!

Sure its possible, if you can convince premiere to let you have it, and pony up the rights fees to Billboard for not just AT40, but also the shows which used R&R now that they own it too. Knock yourself out! That'll only come to around 40-50K a week I believe.

The supposed reason, as I have read all about is 'due to negative comments.' Is XM able to share with us any of these "negative comments"? Or tell us how many they received compared to the number of positive comments? If not, then they're just blowing smoke out of their bums.

This is so knee-jerk, it's ridiculous. After one weekend? And what kind of integrity does it show to leave those of us foolish enough to pay a couple hundred bucks for the equipment completely in the dark while we sit by the radio and wait...and wait...and wait...and wait for our show to come on? For the only reason we signed up in the first place to come on? I guess none of the "bad comments" that have apparently ravaged the 80's on 8 Channel have made their way to the 70's on 7 Channel. I knew there was a reason I stayed locked on the 70's channel during the marathon. As of this second I'm boycotting the 80's Channel completely. And if the 70's Channel drops the show, they can take this equipment and stick it up their arses.

Believe me, if I had enough space and a server, id host one of those FTP things for all you guys. The ones I used to use in 1998 (before Napster and such) all had "upload before download" provisions where you had to upkload a song before you download one. We could do something like that... if someone had a server and some room. That way we would be giving and receiving. And we could not oly do at40, but also other countdowns, syndicated oldies programs, etc. Nothing for sale, just a sort of place for us to go to trade thats easier and doesnt require postage or blank discs. Just an idea I wanted to put out there into your heads if anyone is internet savvy enough to do this (and most importantly has the server space... rather than just having a server for one show). Again, just an idea.
