Has anyone compiled a database with stations that were welcomed or mentioned as "played on" during AT40? My hometown began airing AT40 in early 1982 (possibly late 1981). I always wondered if it was ever mentioned. WMGW - Meadville, PA

Pete Battistini's great book, 'American Top 40 with Casey Kasem (The 70's)' has such a list...your station is not listed in it, obviously, because the book covers only the 70's. Maybe Pete knows if a similar list exists for the 80's and beyond

While I've documented all stations mentioned during the 70s, I have not attempted to compile a similar list for the 80s. And I'm not aware of anyone who has. However, the Meadville station was listed in AT40's 1983-84 listener directory of subscribers. It mentioned that WMGW aired AT40 from noon-4pm on Sundays. The station was not listed in the 1981-82 directory -- FYI.

Seems that no one has that lists. I have only compiled overseas affiliates.

If anyone would like to provide me with a complete set of AT40 shows from the 1980s, I'll be happy to compile a list of station mentions for the decade.

I am looking for a list of major market stations that carried the countdown in the 70's & early 80's. As part of this, I wanted to find out the order of stations that carried the show in Los Angeles. I think that it stayed on the 102.7 frequency the entire time (first KKDJ, then KIIS AM&FM). Anyone have the answers? Which station in YOUR major market carried the show.

KKDJ Became KIIS FM in Oct 1975. I believe the show started on the 102.7 frequency in March 1975. The show stayed on KIIS FM until, I believe the mid 80s right around the time Rick Dees started his countdown -- Rick Dees being the morning DJ on Kiis Fm.
The show did move to new stations in L.A. -- So, the entire first run, was aired on more stations then 102.7 in the L.A. Area.
I think KIQQ, but not sure.

Has anyone heard or remember hearing the overseas stations being mentioned. eg NEW ZEALAND stations: One Double X (1XX) - Whakatane, Bay Of Plenty or 4XO - Dunedin would have been in the 70s mostly. I have a clip of Casey welcoming 4XO in Dunedin to the AT40 Family of stations (not sure what year - early 70's and definately AFTER November 1971, as that's when 4XO when on air. 1XX went on air at the end of June 1971). How do I insert the clip on these boards its about 20 seconds only. Radio 1XX's Website - www.1xx.co.nz

AT40 ran on KIIS FM / AM (1150 AM dropped the show when they became a disco station in '78) until Oct 1983. Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 took its place.
AT40 moved to KIQQ (100.3) until July 1985 when KIQQ became K-Lite. KKFR (92.3) ran AT40 for 6 weeks Jan/Feb before it switched formats to become Hot 92.3. 95.9 KEZY (Anaheim) (now that was a great radio station) picked up AT40 in Oct 1986 and ran the show until Shadow Stevens took over.
On the week that Shadow Steven took over, KIIS FM (and AM) took over the show and aired it first on Saturdays, then moved it to Sundays (airing it before Rick Dees starting in the 4am hour).
For those you that remember, Joel Denver's 'Future Hits' then aired on Saturday mornings 5am - 6am (before Rick Dees).
AT40 remained on KIIS FM/AM for about year until it switched back to 95.9 KEZY. The show ran on 95.9 KEZY until '94 when AT40 became an overseas version (not aired in the US anymore).
In a twist of fate, KBIG (104.3) started airing AT40 when Casey brought it back. AT40 went head to head with Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 on Sunday mornings.
KBIG switched AT40 to AT20 in time for Ryan Secreat to take over the helm and that is when AT40 came back to 102.7 KIIS-FM where is still airs today on Sat (6-10am) /Sun (8am-noon).
KBIG still runs AT20 from 7am - 10am.

Just heard a clip mentioning our station on - www.amandfmmorningside.com/wpgc_casey_kasem.html from 19th July 1975. He calls the station 1 ex ex not one Double X - quite funny really and the way he says Whakatane - wok ah tah ne. Nice one Casey. Has anyone heard or remember hearing the overseas stations being mentioned. eg NEW ZEALAND stations: One Double X (1XX) - Whakatane, Bay Of Plenty or 4XO - Dunedin would have been in the 70s mostly. After KIIS fired Dees (story has it they moved to a new building, but never gave him a set of keys), they aired the Weekly Top 40 on Saturdays & AT40 on Sundays. Of course, they eventually dumped WT40.
