Excellent! I just sent an email. Thanks for the info!
Gang: We tried the email system before and it worked to bring back the broadcast of the end-of-hour themes. Please help us try it again!

When did XM delete the end-of-hour themes?
Btw I may be a little late in mentioning this but I noticed that SIRIUS/XM cut Casey's affiliate mentions in Hour 1 of the 12/15/1984 program (before song #35 according to Charis' cue sheet) as well as Casey's affiliate welcomes in Hour 2 (again according to Charis). Station mentions in Hours 2, 3, & 4 were kept in. If anybody has an original unedited copy of the 12/15/1984 program can you please post the station mentions/welcomes by Casey? Thanks

I just registered in order to comment on this topic. I agree with everyone that the edits being made to the show are ridiculous. I e-mailed Jon Zellner, SiriusXM's SVP of Programming last week, and he was gracious in his reply to me...but it sounds like the edits are permanent.
He said they edit the show to make it "move faster." He said that only radio enthusiasts enjoy the jingles and end-hour themes, and that most people won't notice the change.
My reply was that I'm not complaining - it's better to have AT40 than not to have it - but I disagreed with him about the reasons for making the cuts. If you're going to run the show, why not run it as is?
Anyone who's even a casual fan of the show will notice how jarring and unnatural the edits are. It makes absolutely no sense to me at all. Based on his response to me, I don't feel the unedited shows are coming back.
I do have one other theory for why they're doing the cuts, so bear with me on my explanation: is it possible that the shows they're running now are ones that XM ran previously? If so, isn't the old XM "imaging" still embedded within the program? If you look at your XM display during the show, as soon as Casey talks, and during the "Coast to Coast" and "AT40" jingles, it becomes a new, distinct "element" in the SiriusXM software. If that's the case, maybe SiriusXM has decided to cut the entire segment rather than re-edit it to include "SiriusXM."
Following this one step further, are we not going to hear any shows that DON'T have natural, cold edit places? For example, in the late 70's the "coast to coast" jingles played underneath Casey's outros and teasers (rather than being cold). If they've made the decision to drop the jingle, doesn't that mean they can't play these shows?
If anyone needs Jon Zellner's e-mail address, send me a message and I'll provide it to you. I don't feel comfortable providing it here.

I would guess so, unfortunately, since SXM has not played any AT40 shows from beyond the end of 1976 since the merger. Hopefully, they will have a change of heart, both about cutting out themes and jingles and about not airing post 1976 AT40 shows, if enough of us voice our disapproval over these newly castrated Casey countdowns.

Thanks mtstgator. Appreciate it!
Of note, SIRIUS/XM also deleted station welcomes from the 1/11/1975 show. Because I finally got a copy of Pete Battistini's book, I take the liberty of listing the station welcomes this day. I think these are all right:
KJIN Houma LA KXOA Sacramento CA WUUN Marquette MO (should be MI)

Here is what I sent to XM today using their Contact Us feature:
Two suggestions for you.
1) On your Featured This Week page, when I check the Saturday & Sunday listings, I wish you would give us the Date of the American Top 40 show you plan on airing each week (for both the 70's & 80's).
2) I think you are editing the American Top 40 shows too much. You are eliminating most of the intro & exit themes of the show. I would like to truly hear the show as it was aired back in the 70's. For example, I just finished listening to the "Top 50 Hits of 1976" and this is what I expected to hear:
Opening Shuckatoom theme #50 - Show Me The Way - Peter Frampton #49 - Lowdown - Boz Scaggs Logo: Casey's Coast to Coast Logo: American Top 40 #48 - If You Leave Me Now - Chicago #47 - Shannon - Henry Gross #46 - A Little Bit More - Dr. Hook Logo: Hits From Coast To Coast
What I heard instead was:
Opening Shuckatoom theme #50 - Show Me The Way - Peter Frampton #49 - Lowdown - Boz Scaggs #48 - If You Leave Me Now - Chicago #47 - Shannon - Henry Gross #46 - A Little Bit More - Dr. Hook
The edits feel like you are trying to cram a 3 hr show into a 2 hr slot.
I would prefer to hear the show the way it was aired back before the XM/Sirius merger.

While sending mail to Sirius/XM through their website option may work, you would probably get a quicker response by emailing the Music Programming VP, Jon Zellner, at jon.zellner@xmradio.com

1/13/79!
I guess that answers our questions about the 4-hour shows.

I'm very happy that we are finally getting a 1979 show (and a 1978 show on terrestrial this weekend!), but I'm still puzzled about the editing of the split-logos. There was no logo at all between #39 and #38, but between the Extra and #37 we heard half of a split-logo ("American Top 40"). Again, no logo at all between #36 and #35.

I don't even understand what they're trying to accomplish by removing those jingles. Seems like they are trying to rush AT40 along to get it out of the way. As if there is another program they have to get in after AT40 (just another of the 3 regular DJs that they have on all the time, anyhow) and SiriusXM doesn't have commercials on 70s on 7.
I just don't think that Zellner cares about what listeners really want-only what he imagines them wanting based upon his preferences or commands from above.

I feel a little bit better now that SXM has finally decided to break out the late-70s AT40s again, but they still could work on leaving all the themes and jingles intact. No matter what Zellner says, I believe that anyone with a desire to listen to Classic AT40 wants to hear those old shows with all those delightful themes and jingles not cut out.
