I meant to add to the previous post - does anyone else notice the 'static' on XM (if and when you are recording AT 40)? The last few times I've tried to record AT 40, some type of static sound comes in after about 10-15 minutes, and every song played and word spoken sounds very "static-y" (is that a word?) I'm curious if anyone else has ever experienced this, or is just me.

I have experienced this too. I just thought it was the way I was recording it off the satellite or if the remastered show had some lingering static from the album/tape transfer. I'm glad to know it's not just me as well. I wish they would get this fixed.

I just finished listening to the "Top 50 Hits of 1976" and was disappointed in the amount of editing they do on the Top 40 shows since the XM / Sirius merger.
They now eliminate most or all of the opening & closing themes of each section.
For example, the start of the show should have followed this format:
Opening Shuckatoom theme #50 - Show Me The Way - Peter Frampton #49 - Lowdown - Boz Scaggs Logo: Casey's Coast to Coast
Logo: American Top 40 #48 - If You Leave Me Now - Chicago #47 - Shannon - Henry Gross #46 - A Little Bit More - Dr. Hook Logo: Hits From Coast To Coast
What you heard instead was:
Opening Shuckatoom theme #50 - Show Me The Way - Peter Frampton #49 - Lowdown - Boz Scaggs #48 - If You Leave Me Now - Chicago #47 - Shannon - Henry Gross #46 - A Little Bit More - Dr. Hook
I'm guessing that all of the editing was done so the 4 hour show would fit in a 3 hr slot.
I prefer how American Top 40 was aired when it was just XM & John Clay was the program director.

I really don't understand why XM did that. There are no time constraints on satellite radio, so there was absolutely no reason for the edits. At least they didn't edit any of the songs so that's something, but I don't see why editing the intros and outcues was necessary.

I agree with all of you---I'm very unhappy with the edits since the merger.
I understand that the 4 hour shows usually run about 3 hours/15 minutes on XM. Since I didn't get to record it, can anyone tell me how long the 1976 year end show ran this weekend?

Because of a recording error, I only got 100-51 when they played this show 2 years ago. From the perspective of serving the audience well, I'm still baffled by why they only do the Top 50. But in my case, this works out very well!

Just a couple of quick comments/questions...
1.) Do the powers that be think that we aren't interested in countdowns that feature 51 - 100?
2.) Why are we hearing so many repeats (i.e. 1/11/75)? I guess I don't understand the setup. Is Sirius/XM trying to save money by not purchasing new shows or do they pay a flat rate to Premiere for all shows that are available/mastered?
3.) Thank you, pizzzzza, for posting the timing on the 1976 show!

coldcardinal: I'm right with you! The same thing happened to me--so I'm happy to pick up #50-#1. Oddly, my screen for this program is displaying "1/03/84"
The rest of the gang: Please don't think I'm bellyaching as I'm happy to receive any of the AT40 programming. But, I do miss the time before the merger--before the editing of the split- logos and end-of hour themes and when we were still hearing 1978 and 1979. I'm not sure about 1978, but I believe the last 1979 show we heard on Sirius/XM was 9/1/79.

It just finished listening to the 1/11/1975 countdown. Those cuts are absolutely AWFUL!! Please Please XM, don't cut these shows. Has anyone sent an email to them?

Ok, just sent them an email asking them not to do these cuts... We'll see what the response is. I encourage everyone to send them an e-mail and maybe they'll listen.
