SiriusXM's 70's on 7 FaceBook page posted that after a disco-fueled New Year's eve, they are going to present a "special American Top 40 at Midnight (Eastern.)" What in the world could that be? From the “disco-fueled” description, maybe the July 7, 1979 special?

Ah yes! Good idea! Here's the post:
"Hello 2018! Welcome the New Year with Magic Matt and his Noisemakers. The Noisemakers are Matt’s Hollywood buddies and house guests… It’s a Who’s Who and a… Who’s That? Plus! Non Stop ‘70s Party Rock and Disco Extended Mixes until Midnight Eastern, followed by a special edition of American Top 40!"

You had to know it was going to be the same show that aired this weekend. There are three airings of AT40 every weekend, Saturday at 9am, Sunday at 12noon and Monday at 12midnight. Glad it was the same show as I missed the earlier airings.

But... but... they said it was going to be "special!" Hahaha!
I'm glad you got the chance to hear it. I did enjoy the "party show" that preceded it. They played an extended version of "Night Fever" that I had never heard. And, back-to-back Chic/Foghat is always a blast!

This week’s show was very heavily edited. Someone went overboard with the edit button.

Hi Skuncle,
I had it at 2:20 before having the audacity to make edits of my own! That is on the high side, in terms of length, for the Sirius XM gang. I am assuming you have a more complete version to compare to this one. Could you comment on the differences if you have the time?
I will say that their editing skill is atrocious. It seems the word "seamless" is not in their lexicon! And to simply obliterate the Carpenters intro... All I can think of is that their master must have had severe damage at that point in the show. Even for them, to just wipe out an entire intro would be pretty heavy handed!

I actually don’t have an unedited version. However what I picked up on is the edits surrounding The Carpenters, both before and after the song. But I also noticed that you’d often hear Casey start to take a breath and it would jump to the second half of the bumpers. Also, reading thru the synopsis from Pete’s book, I thought they had the wrong show. Lots seemed to missing from what aired and what’s in the book.

When The Carpenters' track came on, it seemed louder to me, almost as if they'd flown in the track from somewhere else. With regard to the edits, I think they have many people handling that task. As you know, I am cleaning up/editing my modest cache of shows, all recorded from Sirius XM. I was working on a show from 1974 that I recorded back in May, and there was not one Sirius XM jingle or stinger in the whole show. But a 1970 show from October had 18 of them! This past week's show had a more modest handful, but they were poorly done. Hard to explain why they continue to desecrate such a valuable property.
And to talk about the breathing, you could hear every inhalation this week! I know that 1974 is the year of mellow/muted Casey. Maybe they got a new microphone, and asked him to sit closer and talk more quietly! Also, no annoying bed of music during his stories. No Drunken Butterfly, no California Jazz... it was great!

There was a SXM show that aired last year I think that was very lightly edited. How lightly edited? It included an original commercial for an album!! It also included a song from pre-1970. I was hoping that was the start of something new, but turned out it was clearly a mistake on their part.

It was quite a treat to hear the full album version of "Do It Again" by Steely Dan on the 1-13-73 episode.
