You would have been close to me then as I live about 15 miles from I-95!

June 25, 1977 this week. That's eight of the last nine weeks that SXM's AT40s have been from 1975 or later, with 1977 featured in five of the first six months of the year.
At least next week it's back to the beginning, that of course being July 1970.

And the official chart date of that first show is 7/11/70. You know that is the only time during the 70s and 80s that Casey does a show for that date. July 11th would not fall on a Saturday again until 1981 and again in 1987. Charlie van Dyke did both shows. So Charlie did more shows with that date than Casey during the 70s and 80s but Casey did the most important one!

And next week we get to hear from Premiere the only show Casey did during that time with a July 4 chart date (and even that was originally coupled with a special.) In fact, no first weekend of July for 10 years (1972-81) had a regular AT40 (unless you count Townsend Coleman's 1979 self-made show, or the 1975 replay of the 1970 debut.)

My gripe with them airing the first show (again) is that like all the others it will be edited. How can part of their advertising be that you get to hear the legendary Casey Kasem and they cut half of his comments out??

It will be interesting to see what the regular show is. Since the end of April we have gotten 74, 75 (twice), 76, 77(2), 78(2) and 79. Only 1972 interrupted the mid/late 70s roll. The schedule is screaming more early 70s. But I don't see them following 1970 with 71 or 72 an hour later. Could it be a special? Possibly, but the only specials I could see them playing are the Top 40 Acts of the 70s from 1974 and 1978 (and the 1978 one was played last year), or the top 40 Disco Era songs from 1979. The other 70s specials included too much music for earlier decades for SXM, which cuts out every pre-1970 song no matter how well known it is today. For a regular show, 6/30/73 and 6/29/74 are possibilities if they don't want to follow 1970 with something earlier. The only later 1970s show I could see them playing is 6/30/79; 1975-78 each got a turn in the last four weeks, and it's worth noting that in May and June 1975, 1977, and 1978 each was played twice.

I heard today around 11:10 AM ET XM 70's will be playing the debut show of AT40 at noon. They played that as a special at 9 AM EST. The regular show played at noon (and two other times this weekend) is from June 30, 1973.

I love the 1973 shows, the diversity is incredible. A prime example of what made the Top 40 so great.

It's a regular, Casey-hosted countdown, but it's the one that was recorded in advance so it wouldn't conflict with Casey's filming of a "Hawaii Five-0" episode. All the chart positions of all the songs were "estimated" or "improvised," not taken from any actual Billboard chart. Only three of the 40 songs are in their correct spots. Here's an article by J.A. Well, Premiere ran June 29th, 1974, just last year on 7/5/2014, because it's part of Casey Kasem's American Top 40 history dang it!
