That's great but why do I have a feeling the following week will be like 1972 or possibly a stretch like 1974? It won't be 1975 or later though. :/

It won't be 1975 or later though. :/ They just did 1972 this weekend (there's still one more play of it to go as I type this), so I don't think they'll replay it that soon. 1974 is possible, but I'd like to think they'll go later in the decade. SXM hasn't played 1979 in three months, but if they do it next week they would have to go back a week, to 9/22/79. Even if they've been overplaying the early 70s, that's at least a counterbalance to the Premiere affiliates that have been opting for late 70s countdowns when given options, which on some stations has been leading to an overplay of 1977-79 that is likely to continue.

So, any confirmation of this? I assume it would be the 9/23/78 show, which looks like a great lineup of songs! Looking forward to this. --DDA

The Sirius SXM 70's page (http://www.siriusxm.com/70son7) no longer gives AT40 dates like it used to. So generally, there's no way to know for sure which show it will be until it airs. Occasionally, I'm told, a dj will pre-announce which show earlier in the week. But other than that, I know no way of knowing. I certainly don't know if this weekend's show is for 9/23/78 or 9/30.

I'd guess 9/23/78, since it lines up better with this weekend's dates and they played 9/30 just last year. While SXM has lately been more willing than Premiere to deviate a bit from the calendar, it's mostly been backward rather than ahead, so there's an outside chance it could be 9/16/78.

I can't believe how scratchy the recordings are that SXM is playing for this 9/23/78 show - listen to "Summer Nights" or "Three Times a Lady". I think this is the worst sounding I've ever heard. I remember back when XM hadn't been bought out by Sirius - you couldn't hear any of the record pops & clicks on the AT 40s - just shows how little Sirius cares compared to the former XM. Too bad XM didn't buy out Sirius!

I also noticed a few songs sped up like "Josie", "Got to Get You Into My Life" and the last 2 songs. Plus they cut "Boogie Oogie Oogie" to 2:15. Boo hiss to that but it is rather obvious that they ran out of time toward the end. At least they chose a countdown song for the LDD. Needless to say, the 4 hour version 2 weeks hence was BADLY needed!
BTW, what I alluded to had to have been done by AT40 back in the day not SXM.

I didn't get to hear the show today, will catch it Sunday morning, but I did happen to hear "Summer Nights" and I thought it was my reception at first then realized that it was just very poorly mastered. Does SXM have their own mastering team? Either that or quality control fell apart when it was transferred from LP to CD.

They should be downright embarrassed for how noisy and static laden this show is. I guess we'll try recording tomorrow morning and see if that sounds any better.

It sounds like they took an old AT40 Lp & threw it on the turntable! A really well worn AT40 LP, most radio shows on LP were only ever played once or twice, but this weekends show sounds like the LP was played quite a bit and not properly handled, thus the scratches. Although at the same time there is something to hearing the scratches and pops in a record, the digital age has made people forget how we used to hear music.

Horrible, one of the worst shows ever,Gerry Rafferty's Right down the line was so fast it sounded almost like the Chipmunks. The scratches, noise, skipping. What a horrible product to offer to paying customers. They are running it like a communist state operated business ,if you don't like it ,well f*off.I didn't think of re-recording the show.It will be interesting to know if it sounded any better.

Must be 9/25/76, as 10/2/76 was a special countdown of the top 40 Beatles Era hits, which mostly means 60s music. (Maybe that's part of Premiere's double shows with a twist? I doubt it.)

SXM did not change anything they were handed. They played whatever was given to them. The entire show was so sped up, it is amazing. I think the original was sped up horribly? I know Shannon would have only released the best possible show for us that he could.

I know Shannon would have only released the best possible show for us that he could. If it was sped up, then that may have been a way to try to squeeze more into the three hour length, which still required a lot of editing. "Magnet and Steel" should probably just have been called "Magnet", as about half of it was missing, and if they hadn't already decided to expand the show then "Don't Look Back" should be exhibit A in why a longer AT40 was needed. The last half hour or so sounds like a Rice Krispies commercial, with so many snaps, crackles, and pops. But at least this is better than some of the 1974 shows from earlier this year, when Casey sometimes literally sounded as if he was under water.
