Wondering why it was changed from 1976 to 1972.

Jmack, you got your wish for your show. Great music and the highest debut is "Black and White" which rose quickly to the top, but fell down quickly!

Jmack, you got your wish for your show. Great music and the highest debut is "Black and White" which rose quickly to the top, but fell down quickly! Happy also to hear this late August '72 show. A show I first heard one week before Labor Day weekend and the start of my first year in high school (unlike today with school districts in my area already nearly a month into the school year). Tying into that, "School's Out" is in its final week in the 40 this week, at #21. The following week it would drop from not only the 40 but off of the Hot 100 altogether. Has to be one of the highest drops off of that chart.

Don't know if it was Sonny's idea, or producer Snuff Garrett's, or both, but deciding to turn a beer ad into a pop single certainly put the brakes on the duo's resurgent chart performance. Wouldn't hurt the career of the better singer of that duo, however...

Wouldn't hurt the career of the better singer of that duo, however... Not sure that song had much to do with it. They last hit with “The Beat Goes On” in 1967, then nothing until “All I Ever Need Is You” in 1971 followed by “A Cowboys Work Is Never Done” which is essentially a Cher solo song. Then “When You Say Love”. I think a couple things played into this, one being it was obvious that Cher didn’t need Sonny on the record to have a hit and also by 1972 Sonny was more focused on the TV show. He wasn’t writing songs by this point, the last two albums are primarily covers of other hits of the day. On their only two Kapp/MCA albums he only wrote four songs total. Then of course they split by 1974. It is interesting that in 1977 they released “You’re Not Right For Me” but it didn’t chart. Also by then Cher’s solo career was tanking as well.

Interesting thought about "A Cowboy's Work...". Which does also borrow thematic elements (kids playing 'Cowboys and Indians') from Cher's first big solo hit, 1966's "Bang Bang".

Wondering why it was changed from 1976 to 1972. I think 1972 was the Thursday night airing and 1976 was the weekend airing.

Wondering why it was changed from 1976 to 1972. I think 1972 was the Thursday night airing and 1972 was the weekend airing. Both shows were not from 1972. Thursday night ('Wheel Of Casey') was 8/14/76, yesterday's week-matching 'regular' show was 8/26/72. It was just by chance that the 'Wheel' show almost matched the current week.

Maybe the “this weekend’s show is 1976” announcement was an error? Or once the (supposedly) random Thursday spin came up as August 1976, they decided that the weekend show shouldn’t be almost the same, and so it was changed to 1972.

As I’ve said, the new program director on the channel REALLY likes the early part of the decade, so any chance to play stuff from then, it is going to happen. The normal playlist now is loaded with early one hit wonders. Heard “Rubber Ducky” yesterday afternoon. “The Lords Prayer” gets played quite often.

I had a typo in my previous post, which I've corrected. It sure doesn't help when you try to explain something and make a typo that make things more confusing!

Anyway, just to reiterate, the 'Wheel Of Casey' Thursday show was 8/14/76. The 'regular' Sirius-XM Saturday show was 8/26/72 (not 76, as I mis-typed). There. Triple-checked it, it's finally correct.

Interesting how here we get the show from Memorial Day weekend of 1973 just before Premiere plays the one from that year’s Labour Day.
